I'm watching it on a movie channel right now, in the background, and i'm about halfway through i guess (they just revealed who the villain is). it's not really that bad...at least so far

what was the big problem with this movie? it's pretty standard super hero

does it fall off in the 2nd half or something?

The bad scientist character was poorly done IMO. Otherwise like you said standard superhero film. Plus I love Blake Lively

No offense intended but I stopped watching that action hero stuff when I was 12. It may be my lose but so be it.

It's not that it was bad, it just wasn't good. The villain stunk and Blake Lively is good looking but a terrible actress.

Ryan Renolds acting, poor dialogue, way too much CGI.

-Not an accurate characterization of Hal Jordan (although Renyolds was capable of doing so)

too much standardized comic movie-not enough to make it unique, structured to similarly to Marvel movies.

- not enough on GLC, and Sinestro in particular.
- too much green screen, would have been better off using real locations for other worlds
-brought the story back to earth to have run of the mill battle, story should have been away from earth.
-the CGI mask.
-the tone of the movie was trying to capture Iron Man 1 and failed.
-a big giant cloud was a big bad,
-Hector Hammond isn't a "head to head" (no pun) villain with Jordan, it's very much a chess match.
-Sinestro "arc" has no conflict.
-Carol Ferris was miscast
-the ring didn't speak
-This was one movie when inner monologuing by the protagonist would have benefited the film.
-The didn't flesh out the universe and The Guardians role well enough-should have started there.
-Abin Sur should have been a bigger part of the movie.

I almost feel like if they would have fleshed out the GL universe better and put Jordan in there mid-film it would have been a better movie. Save the Jordan origin pieces for a second movie almost.

Jordan is a "wing it" type character at times, it would have been fun just to see him jump in and then go back to what makes him tick.

i vaguely remember people complaining that the movie was too much exposition and not enough plot

GL in the comics has had a very Star Wars feel to it when Geoff Johns took it over and made it DCs (one of) most acclaimed, popular book

There is far too much mythos of the GL to explain in one film, If you take the opening of The Fellowship of the Ring and adapt it to the GL mythos it would have drawn in the audience more. Add that with the New Hope vibe Johns added to the Jordan/Sinestro dynamic and you could have an epic, DC universe starting movie.

Think of Jordan as Han Solo with a dash of Luke and Sinestro as Vader, with Abin Sur as Kenobi.

Also-the ring contructs seemed silly.

The ring constructs always seem silly and that is one of the things I don't like about GL.

There have been some that I like are usually weapons.

I will say if Reel Steel can be hit, then Green Lantern contructs shouldn't stand in the way of movie success.

This should have been a point of pride for the GL Movie.

I know nothing about the comics but the movie was a decent one to me. I will watch it if it comes on just because it is entertaining. It won't win any awards or even come close to best superhero movie, but I enjoy it.

This was the main issue with the movie for me. The villain was terrible with the lame cloud crap, and Hammond was terrible as well. It just kinda ends with a thud.

Other than that it was pretty average superhero fare.

Yeah, fighting a giant entity in the way this film was constructed didn't work. Even if they kept everything else the same (structure, settings, etc.) the movie would have been better served by a head to head villians like the Manhunter(s)
