Termination Salvation. NIN's song was great.

Just got back and thoroughly enjoyed it. One question though, aren't aircraft carriers nuclear powered? Why didn't the mutos go after them?

I haven't seen the movie yet but there are nuke carriers and conventional carriers(decommissioned).

agree 100%. we got way more muto action than godzilla. they need to make a sequel. also, i wish they would have had godzilla fight one of his classic rivals(ghidora, rodan, mothra, etc) instead of the mutos, although the male muto looked a lot like rodan.

They didn't have the rights to any of the other Toho monsters

He was designed to look like Rodan

Said it earlier in the thread but I thought it was an effective way to build tension towards end of the film than hiding/not seeing the monsters

What were the eggs going to do? There are. No radioactive animals left for them to be parasites in.

...that's Godzilla(2014)

I'm amazed at the amount of praise this movie is getting. The Godzilla scenes were good, but there weren't enough. Everything outside of that was
.

+1. Took forever to see Godzilla, the most polite mega creature ever.

Saw the movie in Imax 3d on Friday. Like most on here have said, if the goal was to entertain, it certainly did that. Those 2 hours flew by.
I'm kinda glad the movie did the build up for the first 15-20 minutes; it was pretty much non-stop after that.
Considering how long it took to make this thing, a lot of the simple holes in the storyline should have been fixed. But you really don't concentrate on them when they're happening because there's too much going on to focus on.
The acting, other than Cranston, was very weak. But I didn't go to the show to be impressed by them anyway. This is named "Godzilla" for a reason and he delivered.
It's a solid movie and worth the time.

In this day and age, why do they go out of the way to not show the monsters well lit? Before it was due to hidden wires and cheap effects but there should be no excuse today. It was worse making out what was happening than Pacific Rim.

That movie was everything I wanted. Straight up old school Godzilla movie with modern movie making magic.
That movie is the definition of why I go to the movie theater.
The nitpickers will have a field day and I am sure this will become the cool movie to hate soon.
It just might for visual effect or audio.

Because it helps lower the cost of the special effects
I didn't have any trouble seeing what was going on
eta- and people complaining about the build up obviously haven't watched old school Godzilla movies.

Does it really matter man ? It is a movie. They have to fit shite into a 2 hour time frame.

the only old school godzilla movie where there is a long build up to godzilla is the original one. And even in that one, once you got godzilla, you got a lot of him. also, the tone of the original godzilla was a lot different than this, that film was a serious critique of social issues.
my issue with this one isn't necessarily that there was a long buildup to godzilla, but that there was a ton of action only involving the motu. since they were giving us a lot of action, they might as well have given us more godzilla, less motu.
overall i enjoyed it a lot, i thought they did an awesome job with the godzilla design and execution. i look forward to a sequel.
the only thing better i could hope for is a straight up remake of the original godzilla(albeit the american dubbed version) where the movie is extremely serious, godzilla is the bad guy and there is zero campiness(basically would need the chris nolan/batman begins treatment). that would have been awesome.
