it was clear Supergirl wasn't needed.
She was needed for the "this is a job for Supergirl" moment. It took Supergirl and Flash to cover the world and place the devices on each Dominator. Plus she did her share in the various fights and posed the greatest threat and was the solution when they were mind-controlled.
She also served as the token good alien so that Earth Arrow didn't immediately fall into total xenophobia.

All of this.
Also Dig was great in the crossover as well. He is great as the "Every Man" of the group. No super powers and no Bruce Wayneish upbringing. Just a regular bad arse guy in a group of extraordinary people.

This is all true, but they (the showrunners) clearly could have made that work without her.
My statement was more about the Supergirl show, really. Other than the Supergirl character, no one else from that show is involved at all.

There were only three characters from the current show who even know that Barry and the other Earth exist: Kara, Winn, and Jimmy. Only Kara was of any use to the team fighting the Dominators.
According to the showrunners, this isn't the last we'll see of the Dominators either, but the Earth 38 version ties in more with Mon-El and Daxam than anything else.

Barry interacted with a ton of people on Earth 38. I can't remember how many know where he's from, but I doubt Kara kept it a secret from her D.E.O. friends.

Lucy Lane hasn't been seen this season and the only other individual in the DEO that has any screen time is Garcia (woman with the butch haircut).
At the time Barry arrived, Alex and J'Onn were looking for Cadmus.

At the end, when they're celebrating, Felicity comments, "It's like looking at a mirror image" and Ray responds with, "you know, she kinda looks like my cousin". They then look at each other funny.

Brandon Routh (the actor who plays Ray Palmer) played Superman in Superman Returns.

I was really hoping they were going for a merging of universes to bring the Arrow/Flash Earth and the Supergirl Earth into one so they could have more interactivity. I found the interdimensional gadget thing to be a bit too simplistic (and a bit cheesy).
Overall I liked it though. Great to see a story like that play out over 4 nights in a row with slight changes of focus each night.

I couldn't make it through her crossover episode. Keep her earth (show) far away from earth-1

Watched all 4 hours of the crossovers in one sitting. That was entertaining as shite.
If I could die having a threesome, it would be with Kara and Laurel. I love them so damn much.
Big plot hole in this crossover is that they should've brought over Superman with Supergirl as well. He would've provided a huge boost and an extra long distance trailer in the finale against the aliens.
One of the reasons why I've never been a faithful Arrow watcher is that I felt like he was too much of a carbon copy of Batman and Bruce Wayne. Arrow isn't supposed to be as moody and dark as the CW version is. And arrow's episode only reinforced that point.
So when Barry did flashpoint, he gave stein a daughter and because of the fact that Stein was existing outside of time while flashpoint was going on, he had no idea what was going on or even aware of her existence and it was only when barry went back to the old timeline did the memories start creeping into his head thanks to the time stream. That's fricking cool man.
All in all, that was a good crossover. Enjoyed it very much.

Routh joined the CW a couple years too soon.
He would've been a fantastic choice to play Superman on his own CW show with Supergirl being a side role and would've filled the role really well. He could've been better than Tom Welling.
I was hoping that when they announced Superman was coming to supergirl that a doppelgänger of ray palmer on another Earth and in this case earth 38, would be Superman here. But that was always going to be a long shot and Hoechlin did a pretty good job anyway.

You're in the minority pal. It's gotten pretty good ratings and has completely improved since it came over from CBS with good action, good plots and no stupid forced romances that look completely unnatural.

Barry wasn't the reason Stein had a daughter, it was Stein interacting with his younger self.

I hate merging Earths.
It was the death of the DCU.
