So, Regan was just a random choice

After reading the book, I like to think that the demon chose Regan because he was actually targeting Merrin and Karras. The movie goes into it, but the book really explains Karras’ spiritual struggles, growing disillusionment with the church, and his waning faith. It is drawn to Karras because of this. Regan is the perfect vessel that could bring both Karras and Merrin together, using Karras’ lack of faith as an advantage against Merrin. In the end, you could make a strong argument either way about who won: Merrin/Karras or the demon.

I believe one of the rules or superstitions of the Ouija board is that playing it alone leaves the user more susceptible to being targeted by evil spirits. She was using the board alone to contact a spirit named Mr. Howdy or something like that. So her being possessed might have something to do with that Ouija superstition.

I apologize. CAPTAIN Howdy. Did not mean to disrespect his service time.

I'll drop my Exorcist story here.

When they did the 2000 cut with deleted scenes reinserted, I went to see it on the opening Friday night at the local theater. This is a theater that had a reputation for being overrun with loud obnoxious high schoolers on Friday nights, but I figured this being a movie from decades earlier, I didn't see a problem.

Boy was I wrong. I got there 15 minutes early and the place was packed wall to wall with the typical Friday night crowd. I almost left but grabbed an aisle seat at the bottom.

From the time the movie started til the end there was nary a peep out of the audience, and almost none of the usual back and forth through the aisles.

It was quite an experience being in a room with 300 scared shitless teenagers.

wonder what warnings are on those?

Well, in California it’s “warning, materials in this product have been shown to cause certain cancers in laboratory experiments”.

I think they did a good job with the 3rd movie where they tied father karris to the demon. As if the demons plan was to possess the girl to get to karris since his faith was wavering in the first place.
