Dad Stewart was indeed not worthy, and yet the show constantly tries to tell us that Hal stole something from him. He appropriated what should have rightfully belonged to a black man, but because of imaginary privilege… It wasn’t his to steal from in the first place . The ring did not choose him. Even Hal himself apologizes! WTF is even this show?
Hal uses a tire iron to remove a plastic grill off of a car to test to see if the metal detector detects… metal.
That is almost but not quite as ridiculous as the fire in space scene from the Acolyte.
Come at me all you want with the “ but you didn’t see it!“, But tell me where I’m wrong. Tell me this didn’t happen.

So no, space isn't "dark". There is nothing blocking any light from the nearest star (like air, cloud cover etc). It would brighter than noon, which is why the spaceflight images (real stuff) always look blown out. There just isn't a "blue sky" blackdrop.
Read the rest of what I wrote and try to process it. The 'darkness guns' seemed to be putting out some sort of substance, like 'smoke' but much more opaque, that was actively blocking the light out. I'm guessing that was something meant to interfere with the power ring being able to make a construct, as the "solid light" was being blocked.
I would further guess that had he already made a construct, it wouldn't have been affected by it. Simply because, if it would, that tech would instantly negate the effectiveness of the GL corps, and render the entire premise useless.

I think the Guardians can also decide who gets to wear it. I don't read GL comics, so not sure if this is accurate or not.

Nope, that's only the POV of John's mom. Linneys character clearly states that John's dad had fear so not worthy.

So did many other potential lanterns. All had fear except Hal.
John's mom just assumes because Hal is white, he didn't have to fear anything. That itself is very racist.

Exactly. The show made a mistake adding cultural stuff to a show about aliens. I lol when she's telling an alien "do you know what it's like to be black in America"? That's just silly dialogue. But I'm enjoying everything else.

Yes, the characters are doing things you say... but if you were watching, you'd realize it's not being portrayed in a favorable light.
Someone else hit it on the head when they compared John's parents to Joe Jackson. Yeah, the very basic intent is to get something for their kid, but it's all done in the most despicable way; and it's not just despicable to someone with certain "views", anyone rational would be appalled by it.
If there is messaging going on, I'm starting to wonder if that message is "ends don't justify means", or something to that effect. Because they do put some of those talking points out there, and then proceed to make it very uncomfortable to go on those points. And noticeably, John wants nothing further to do with his parents. He's said several times he is ok with being cut off from them, and never seeing them again. So he's not embracing their message at all. If he was, you'd expect him to champion that more.

1. I'm being honest. I don't have HBO, no plan on signing up for it. Was going to for House of the Dragon, until I HEARD that it was substandard from seasons past ( I did see S1, fwiw).
