is it ok for 12 yr olds?
I think it should be.
There are a fair amount of dead 12 year olds in it but there’s nothing really that scary in it.

movie was legit.
the best part to me was how well they pulled off the 70's look. Really well done.

So why didn’t the Grabbernot kill him soon? But did so to the others ?
He didn't play the game and give him a reason.
He didn't try to escape.
The moment he got out of the house the Grabber showed up with an ax.

Saw it Saturday with adult son. We both really enjoyed it.
The little girl who played Gwen played her role well.
"Jesus, what the frick? I mean what the frick?"

Great novie. Not a ton of scares but good story.
Ethan Hawke was fantastic as always. The kid Finney was very likeable and his lil badass sister lol

I watched this Friday night (It's on Peacock now just FYI).
It was...ok?
I think this should be put into the "paranormal thriller" category and moved well away from "horror". This was more like an Alex Cross movie with ghosts.

We watched it with 10 and 12 year old girls and they enjoyed it, but im not exactly the model dad on movies.
My daughters love Horror and its become our thing to go see scary movies. I make sure there is no sex or tons of F bombs but they love supernatural Conjuring type movies

Good movie. Wife made comment that it made her uncomfortable the whole time & she loved it. She was thumbs down on Candyman.

Just watched it and agree with all of the above. The abusive alcoholic dad (Jeremy Davies) was a real sack of shite, too, who also expertly played the cowardly weasel who idly watched the German soldier gut his fellow American soldier in Saving Private Ryan.
Questions:
-Why didn't Finn ever consider using the glass bottles/shards as weapons? Or the ceramic breakfast plate?
-When Finn pulled the metal blinds off the basement window with the rope, why didn't he swing the metal back up to attempt to break the window?
-How did The Grabber not notice the window was now exposed? There was significantly more light in the room afterwards.
-If the toilet bowl top was sturdy enough to crack open the cement wall, couldn't Finn have climbed/shimmied up the standing rolled-up carpet and broke the window with the sturdy toilet top?

Wife and I liked the movie but let's just say if I would have been in that kids shoes in the basement my arse would have gotten out of there without the black phone.

i know for the vast amount of horror/scary movies you have to suspend belief. The best scary movies are when you don't have to do that.
What i initially liked about this movie was the realism of it. Anytime you have a movie that is rather simple in nature in why it's scary, it makes it more frightening. I think that's why something like SAW was great when it first came out. You watched it and thought all of that was rather feasible to do if you were a sick individual. It was simple, and there was nothing far fetched about the how everything happened.
But once the super natural aspect of this movie came into play it just completely through me off. Maybe i'm interpreting the movie incorrectly and it was all happening in Finney's head and wasn't actually real ghosts and what not, but it sure seemed like i was supposed to believe these kids who were killed were actually assisting Finney from beyond the grave. There's never an explanation of this, so i guess i'm just to assume ghosts are real and can communicate with us, and we can dream about things we've never seen happen for in order to find out where our kidnapped brother is.
It's just a lazy way to move the plot along. It's like saying i don't know how to write a story where the sister can effectively help remember/solve this crime on where Finney might be, so i'll just give her a super natural power. and i don't want to show how a kid could think his way out of this kidnapping situation so i'll just give him some supernatural help.
Movie would have been 10x's better without the supernatural, and i still liked it, just thought it could have been so much better.

Ehh it was surprised Ethan Hawke took that role. Not bad but not great great.

Just watched it on Prime...spoilers...
My main problem is that the sister's psychic abilities played absolutely no part in her brother's escape. The movie ends up the same even if she doesn't have psychic abilities
ETA: But at least the dad will now believe the daughter

I’ve always been a huge horror fan, but ever since having kids, I have a harder time watching horror that involves them, especially kids being abducted. Anyone else feel that way? I guess that is the point of horror, but it hits different now, and I enjoy it a bit less.
