I was at work one day when i heard someone say "The rug really ties the room together." The frustrating part is that he was serious and no one else in the room had seen the movie.

One of the most overrated movies in history, and I say that with almost zero hyperbole.

It's decent at best. The best thing about it is how quotable it is.

So you have no frame of reference here. You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know...

Nothing overrated about the movie.

Sam Elliots character was needed to give the some sort of sane, rational perspective on the overall events happening. If the narrator was someone like Donnie, it wold have been like the insane person telling the story to the doctor at the looney farm.

everyone nuts over this movie any time it gets mentioned. I agree with Cocomo. I like it and all, but it seems to get waaay more enthusiasm that I personally am willing to give it credit for.

That's laughable. Everyone jizzes over this movie, especially on here. I know that I am in the minority when I say that it's overrated, but I'm cool with that.

And note that I don't say it sucks, not at all. Because it is very quotable and there are some good moments in it (The Jesus is awesome). But overall, it's just average IMO...nothing special about it at all. Yet people constantly blow it like it's a huge cock. Most of my friends absolutely LOVE it, whereas I've always found it to just be okay.

The Big Lebowski is the film about nothing. The entire movie pretty much evaluates the pointlessness of every single thing every single character does. The plot of the film literally resolves itself by the time the Dude actually figures it out. This is the reason most people hate the film watching it for the first time (myself included) is that you actually try to keep up with the plot and the twists and turns when that was never the films intention. Once you realize this, the film becomes more and more enjoyable with each viewing.

So basically Big Lebowski is The Name of the Rose. This is a real revelation for me.
