Thoughts on the episode?

he gave em
Nina had to get got
Elizabeth going soft is a paradigm shift, but she's done that before and then got hard again. Phillip has always been soft
the evolution of their relationship has kind of taken away a major layer of drama. lest we forget earlier in the series there was constant conflict about what their relationship was. now it's kind of just "we're a real married couple" without anymore drama
i think martha gets killed and beamon can convince the unit to investigate. the officer who took her on the date will likely be on board (both b/c of her admission and b/c he likes her and is the 2nd agent to die in a short period of time with spying going on around the unit)
next year HAS to be the end of the show. too many nooses are tightening around phillip and liz

I don't completely agree with

because he can (and has) been a hardass when necessary (as an operative, and as a parent [Paige and Religion]).

I think this actually increases the drama in some respects. It's just that the tension of loss/being discovered is less about the mission and more about the family. I almost wonder if they don't meet the same fate as the other family at Henry's hands.

I can see this playing out. But, I can also see Martha surviving long enough to kill Phillip.

Agreed, unless they run.

i read somewhere that it's a 3 act show, and they are approaching the end of act 2. i imagine the next big death will signal the end of the act. next season will probably be the end, but the makers have said it's either going 5 or 6 seasons, so there may be 2 more.

Great episode.
Not sure what the point of nina's gulag story was with the jew and all.
Im guessing stan, the jew and Boris will be pissed about it and soviet russia gonna pay.
Perhaps they wrap it into leading to the fall of the soviet union?
Also kinda bogus that a 2 day course of antibiotics kills a super bacteria

Damn, and here I was thinking it was just to tie up the stealth guy's story line and illustrate who Philip and Elizabeth are really working for.

Stupid glanders.

which is, apparently, a real thing...as is the antibiotic they were using.

I never saw it as Phillip was soft. I see him as more of a pragmatist. He grew up in the USSR in BFE. Working for the KGB is pretty prestigious job and a way out of his home town. That's the way to move up in that society. If he was born in the US he'd probably be a lawyer or on Wall Street or something. He does some awful stuff and feels guilty about some times but it's his job. He'd defect or as we see now would run because it is better for him and his family. I think he liked having the kids more. He's more in it for himself for lack of a better term than the cause.
Elizabeth is a true believer. She is dedicated to the cause of communism. She took the job with the KGB because it was her duty. She'd probably be a hard core lefty if she was born somewhere else. She thinks they are right and does the terrible stuff because she really thinks it "makes the world a better place" that old lady was the only time she really felt guilty. I suspect she just had the kids because it was part of the job and struggled with the idea that the kids were part of the mission and her maternal instincts. That's why she was ok with Paige going into the program at first and Phillip was against it.
The kids are a reflection of them. Paige is like Liz, i saw her taking to religion the same way Liz is devoted to the "cause". Henry is more like Phillip, just a dude trying to live his life.

Anyone else think the sons relationship with Beamon is creepy?
Posted on 4/9/16 at 8:41 pm to dallastiger55
I think he's going to peace together who they are because of the son

Oleg is about to go off the reservation and Martha is on the fricking edge.
Pastor Tim and the missus better have their shite together or they won't be long for the world.
Stan...he's close. Very close.

Arkady's worried. He stuck his neck out for Nina. This could bite him in the arse, especially when Oleg turns.

I just don't see it ending well for Martha.
