When did alliances become a thing on Amazing Race?

Smaller alliances where two or three teams help each other have been a thing for a long time... a bigger 5-team alliance is new, and isn't going to hold up.

It already seems like the Indian siblings and NFL guys are on the outs.

I wasn't sad to see the Lafayette girls go, they were annoying, but how in the hell do you end up lost driving around for 6.5 hours? You could have walked all around Paris in that amount of time.

Also, loved the boss move be Leo to take over the gay guys' car and drive them out of the way. That was great.

You'd think people would take the time to learn how to drive a stick before going on the show.

No doubt, it comes up every season. It's hard to practice for all the other challenges since they are so varied, but driving a stick shift is ALWAYS important.

Volleyball brothers are a pretty damn strong team.

Yeah, they make me question the alliance. I think the gays have a shot to potentially eliminate the volleyball brothers with a yield they would be dumb not to take it.

2 things you should learn for the Amazing Race:

1. Driving a stick shift
2. Swimming

I suspect he did know how to drive a stick but put it in third instead of first and then was too panicky to figure out what he did wrong. He was driving fine later in the episode.

I was happy to see the blondes survive. I wasn't big on them in the beginning but they just don't quit.

I hate the boyfriends. They cannot leave my TV fast enough.

I like the middle-aged Asian couple. I would be happy to see them win.

I'm meh on the beard brothers. I don't hate them but I don't root for them either.

Same for the brother and sister.

I used to like Deangelo and Gary but they really did hose Hung and Chee on the saurkraut thing.

I liked Alana and Leo (especially Alana ) but somebody had to lose and I don't blame the blondes at all for yielding them, especially after Leo left them high and dry earlier.

Blondes had to make that move, really Leo and Alana got screwed over by the big alliance. If they aren't all helping each other a few other teams probably get stuck.

Asian woman getting mad at husband after he’s mad she gave the answers to Deangelo...

What a count .

The Kazakhstan film studio thing was one of the cooler things they’ve done in awhile to me. I enjoyed that

They're hilarious.

Middle aged? You must be 12. They are in their 30's for crying out loud. Yes, I like them.

Gary and DeAngelo didn't hose them. Kind of stupid on her part to agree to wait for them. She could have tried to yell it to them, etc.

Why do they let NFL players who have made millions on on show for a million dollar prize? Seems off to me but this is the first season I've watched in a while.

Really like the blondes, they never get to down on themselves and have a positive attitude. Good things continue to happen to good people.

Asian couple very consistent.

Volleyball bros still top team to beat imo.

Deangelo would still be walking down that building looking at letters.

Exactly.

And HungChee helping DeAngelo is also a good strategic move, I think.

You'd rather be up against them in the final leg as opposed to the gay guys or the beard bros. Or the Indian siblings... Gary and De are almost certainly the weakest overall team in their alliance.

UC-Berkeley grads are the epitome of brainy nerds who have no street smarts or sense of direction. I remember in the very first episode Gary saying they looked dumb. If that wasn't the pot calling the kettle black. Gary looks as dumb as a stump. I like Deangelo but can't stand Gary. The gays are beyond annoying. The rest of the teams are fine though I'm hoping the bearded volleyball guys take it home.

Read today that Leo and Alanna are married now...and Leo took her last name.
