That is a theme of a bunch of his movies, though.

BB if you can't buy that this is a trilogy based on the protagonist being a boy, a man, an old man, then I don't know what else to tell you. We were talking about them as a trilogy when Munchausen came out. Gilliam has used the word to describe them.

Growing up.

Time Bandits represented childhood, Brazil, adulthood, and Baron Munchausen, an elder at the end of life.

That's what I've heard at least. I have no idea if that was the intention while filming/producing them.

I could see that.

Definitely very unusual movies.

Time Bandits was probably the first time I was introduced to a story so absurd.

I'm sure it's a fanboy internet thing, but there is a strong theme that these 3 movies have in common: the lead characters all escape into worlds of fantasy to overcome a boring mundane life or a repressive situation.

No we weren't.

Again, is there a link to this?

The Adventures of Baron Munchausen

That's one of the movies we used to watch tripping on shrooms. I can remember many a night calling around to the local video stores looking for a copy, anytime between 90 and 94.

I still think it's excellent. It kinda flew under the radar a little.

I would put this movie in the same category as Time Bandits (1981), The Dark Crystal ( 1982) Legend (1985) Never Ending Story (1984), Ice Pirates (1984).

I was with you till Ice Pirates, baw.

I liked it to - although I haven't seen it in many years. I do remember Uma Thurman titties, and as a younger lad - I appreciated them.

Way before this movie was made, a sadistic German teacher required our class read the book in the original German. It's hard enough beginning a new language, but translating nonsense was a misery.

Is there something so brilliant in it, that I might enjoy the nonsense?
