it just boggles my mind that Disney bought an IP that had an established fanbase in the millions and they have done everything they could to drive them away. They did not like that it was a male dominated fanbase. It's like they don't want to make money.

It's hard for me to believe the sabotage is due to an ideological bubble, I have a hard time thinking people in Hollywood are that unaware. It's frightening if they are.
My only conclusion is a deliberate sabotage.

I understand wanting to capture the female audience since in the majority of households women make more purchasing decisions but to complete flip off the already established fanbase should be a case study in how not to handle an IP.

Women have never been consumers of sci-fi. Hollywood still refuses to accept underlying biological realities of the differences between males and females. Hint: female consumption habits tend to align with their biological dispositions.
Like I said, they're either in an insane ideological bubble, or they completely understand what they're doing and are being deliberately destructive.

Exactly and they've gone to an obsessive degree to wipe away the "male-ness" of the franchise up to and including making female protagonists even in the damn videogames. It's very similar to the whole "everything is centered on whiteness so we have to be anti-white now".
Star wars battlefront MC for campaign? Woman
The Anakin Lightsaber? Now it's Rey's lightsaber and Anakin isn't even mentioned.
Cal Kestis in Falllen Order? Black female supporting and another female supporting he meets along the way. One of the main villains? A woman of color who is apparently sort of "forced" into her role by Darth Vader (I'm sure the writers are trying to connect this dynamic to #metoo BS).
The same level of obsession these people put into their policing of "non-progressive" language goes into their feminization of star wars.
Same people that feel it was ABSOLUTELY necessary to stuff a stupid disgusting trans flag into a scene in spiderman. Never underestimate the religious ferocity of the people who are put in charge of modern Hollywood content. The small details have always mattered to them, so when they say "OH it's just a movie, why do you care?" They're LYING because it means everything to them.
