Fine with the choice. At least it wasn't The Butler.

I guess I need to rephrase

did the fact that it was about slavery get it over the top rather then it actually being the best movie?

I have no issue with the choice I'm just wondering.

I despise white guilt films like The Butler but 12 Years is legit. Truly a great movie.

Agreed. At least that film was mostly honest (and it was great as well). The Butler made up a backstory where the Butler's parents were brutally raped and killed. Seriously. Seems like one hell of a thing to embellish. So glad the Oscars completely snubbed it.

For sure. Many will say it's just because it's about slavery but it's a great story and great film

Clooney won an Oscar last year for producing Argo and Pitt this year for 12 Years. Leo's best chance to win an Oscar is probably to produce the next Best Picture winner.

Matthew McConaughey just won an oscar. dear god in heaven..

Wut?

MM has turned in a year that maybe no actor in history can compete with.

He put in two Oscar worthy performances as lead and won one of them. Could have gotten a supporting nomination for Wolf of Wall Street and in his spare time is co-starring in what might go down as one of the best 5 or 10 shows that have ever been made for TV.

All of that in one year.
