don't understand this. This may not be the thread to discuss this, but why should this guy get sympathy because he is famous? There are many people who give no sympathy to people who's deaths are brought on by their own reckless actions, why should this guy be any different?

It's kind of a show and thread about famous people fwiw.

it's not about sympathy it's more about celebrating his greatness as an actor and mourning the loss of that talent

Because this is an event celebrating acting and film making. It would be like leaving off Edison at an inventors convention just because he was a douchebag.

No one is asking you to light a candle or say a prayer. It's where the academy remembers people that passed in their business.

He was one of the nicest actors in Hollywood and had been clean for a long time. He just relapsed and it caught up to him. Show some sympathy.

Ok, I'm with you there. I thought the comments toward lucky-so-and-so were due to him not having sympathy for his death, not the comment about him being left off the list.

He's not getting sympathy for being an addict, you dense frick. He's being recognized for being one of the best actors of his generation. If you dumb fricks don't want addicts recognized as great actors, then they might as well cancel the Oscars.

I really like Philomena. Very quiet and touching. I know it won't win but it's very good.
