i was actually shocked it was that low. like you, I really do like the movie and think it's fantastically done. it's a great movie in it's own right, just not the top 20 horror movies of all time.

it's similar to black panther. i really enjoyed black panther... but best picture nod? come on.

i'm not much of a horror/slasher movie guy, but the top of the list was solid.

The Thing belongs in the top 10. As a story, it’s bleak, unnerving, and speaks to a very real human/societal flaw of paranoia and mob mentality. As a technical achievement, it’s the standard by which all practical effect-based movies are scored - horror or otherwise.

Holy shite. They put it at 46??

There are maybe 8 movies I would put ahead of The Thing on the Horror pantheon.

Ehh, I actually like the newer horror flicks.

I think newer horror movies like The Conjuring and Talk to Me are better than most on that list.

I bet most have seen The Conjuring on here. Good series of horror movies.

But if you haven't seen Talk to Me, you should definitely give it a try. It was talked about here, but not sure if many have seen it. Still has one of the hardest to watch scenes in it to me from any movie too... I actually had to turn my head for a second, and I don't do that... that scene got me.

For people who have seen it, you know what scene I'm talking about??

nice top 10 although I would rate The Exorcist above all others.

And Rosemary's Baby was a letdown.

I’m what this board would consider to be a liberal snowflake and even I can see the irony of Get Out being propped up on this list by the same kind of people it vilifies in the movie.

It’s a really fantastic film but it’s not a top 20 horror movie of all damn time.

It’s pretty clear why it’s propped up so highly. It’s a crap list. It is what it is. I just think these type of lists are so much better when they are personalized. The idea of ranking movies based on significance really cuts the list off at the knees.

Not sure if you watch movie trailers or not, but Talk to Me has a really good trailer.

You may want to go into it completely blind though.

But yeah, it feels like a very current movie. Also it is Australian.

1. The Shining
2. Candyman
3. Scream
4. Halloween
5. The RIng

"Horror" is a really hard thing to define though... only ranked the ones that I consider truly horror (SOTL and Jaws would probably make my top 5 if I thought they qualified)

I do as well. I consume any and all horror I can get.

I love The Conjuring series and most of the spin-off movies. To me they are like theme park rides. Fun as hell.

Agreed. I thought it was an excellent movie.

I know the exact scene, and I don’t typically turn my head for gore or bodily harm but damn! That’s up there with the Terrifier 2 scene!

In defending TCM from the unwashed masses and those with an uncultured eye, I forgot to add in my support of comments criticizing Get Out's status/ranking.

For people who were old enough to watch the Exorcist, you can remember
what an effect it had on the population. It was so disturbing that it renewed the discussion of whether or not the devil was real. People had trouble sleeping for months after seeing that movie.
The Exorcists made people reconsider their spirituality the same way that Jaws made people reconsider going to the beach.
