I honestly don't remember a survivor where the biggest goof ball made it to the final 3 without ever doing anything of significance like Jake.
Romeo a few seasons back is close.

Can anyone logically explain to me why Boston Slob would tell Austin about his idol?
What sense did it make? He took the target off his back sure but they knew not to stack their votes on just one person, basically making his idol play null

because he was a terrible player

He didn't just want to make a move... he wanted the other players to know he was making a move so he could get validation that he belonged with them. Which is funny. If he would have just made his move without telling anyone, he probably could have gotten the approval he craved. Instead, none of his proposed moves worked out. You almost start feeling bad for him because he wanted to play so hard, but just couldn't figure out how to do it.

I would not have told him about the idol but he still had the ability to blindside them by giving it away. He totally blundered it and had a truly terrible season.
Dee played a great game, Austin had to make a move and at the end of the day didn’t make one that rivaled what Dee did.
It was a pretty entertaining season but also I feel like there was so much opportunity for better moves to be made that would have put it into a different tier.

I really liked Jake, but it was painful to watch him
Jake trying to make a big move every episode:

Because he's one of the worst strategic players I can remember.
He ruined his chance at an actual big move and instead looked like a tool.

I grew in respect for Jake as the season went on, and was genuinely rooting for him at the end. Psychologically, I can’t imagine what it feels like to be on national television on Survivor and go all the way to the end knowing you’re getting dragged along, and fail every time you make a move. Pretty demoralizing. I respected him for never giving up.
Would’ve been the ultimate slap in the face for Dee to take him to FTC because she couldn’t trust him to beat Katurah, glad he got that moment.

He was hoping by sharing the info they would put all their votes on Katurah so the idol play would be more powerful.

Just stopping by to say this was a great season. See is the best new winner we’ve had in a while. And…
Brandon (the pathetic guy from early on the season) has a smoke show girlfriend.

Least surprising winner ever. Season started awful, but got better after they got rid of bruce
It was a meh season. Started awful and stayed boring until maybe Kaleb's shot in the dark. Then boring and remained after everybody was buddy-buddy and we knew Austin/Dee was making the final.

frick off…
It was actually a pretty good season. It wasn’t meh. It was pretty good and better than decent. I don’t like how final few weeks ended up but whatever … that’s out of my control

Yeah I don’t get the hating on the season.
Over half of the tribals were legit split vote nail biters or blindsides.
And the cast all managed to stay civil and actually seemed to really enjoy each other while still playing pretty cutthroat.
Give me more casts like this every season imo.

It was funny how Emily’s transformation was a big story this season and how she was going to ask her boyfriend to get married but then made a bitter comment about Austin.
I took her comment to mean she was pretty sure that Dee was playing Austin the whole time. Dee truly was playing Austin. Yeah, I think she likes him some, but not nearly as much as he liked her. For Dee, it was truly a showmance and I think Austin saw it as more. I think when Emily found out that Dee betrayed Austin, she saw the relationship as what it really was...a way to get ahead in the game and that Julie was truly Dee's #1.
Dee kept her eyes on the prize. Austin kept his eyes one Dee and it cost him. Telling her about the Julie vote was a fatal mistake.

No. Emily meant what she said as a man hater with no emotional intelligence. Her redemption arc all season was a cover for her blatent racism early on. She has foot in mouth disease & no social awareness. Survivor could have easily edited her as a villain. FTR Dee refuses to talk about her & Austin's relationship post show. She totally used him to win.

The fire making at 4 continues to be a shitty plot device. Great moment for Jake, but that needs to go back to a vote.
I don't know. Jeff has explained the logic here pretty fulsomely. It started with him being unsatisfied with how often strong, likable players would make it to the final 4 only to be casually eliminated (unless they got immunity).
Math/logic dictates that idols can't be allowed past the final 5. If they were, then a different person could win immunity and you could be left with a perma-standoff between the unprotected two.
Then, if you make final 4, you can't be voted out. You can "save yourself" - and by doing something fundamental to the game (making fire).
What are you saying would have different if it had been a vote? You really think they would have taken Katurah instead of Jake? I don't.
Maybe what you really don't like is that it's a final 3 and not just a final 2?
