re: Survivor Season 41 (finally back two weeks from tonight)

Sydney had two bad breaks... the dumb hourglass twist that put her from protected to at risk, and then the Xander/Evvie/Liana idol drama that shifted the target off of Evvie and onto her.
She also made a bad play letting that live tribal happen without getting involved with the majority alliance, most of which were her former tribe. She could have potentially forced Danny or Naseer into the conversation as well, but she sat back either resigned to her fate or overconfident.

She was resigned to her fate with using her "shot in the dark". She may have made it through(forcing a tie) if she was better with math and kept her vote.

Xander could have saved her as well, he has an extra vote, but he didn't want to burn it on her and I don't blame him.
Evvie could have also rolled the shot in the dark, giving their alliance a 1/3 chance at success, then Tiffany could have played the immunity idol for the one that wasn't safe, eliminating DeShawn.
Obviously that group didn't really want to work with her moving forward either, but now they are 3 vs. 8 and are going to likely get picked off over the next three weeks.

Thats not a solid 8 by any means. You would think that they could get a couple of people (Maybe Nassir, The old Lady, Ricard and/or Erika) to side with them. If they get 2, use the idol correctly, and use the extra vote to their advantage, then they would be back in it.
I think they could get Ricard to flip since he doesn't like Shan much and he seems like a schemer.
I could also see Erika flipping since her old tribe put her in exile and clearly don't value her.
I doubt they could get the old lady cuz she seems like she doesn't even know the rules of the game and thinks she has to vote with blue.
I also think Nassir is a hard pull cuz he doesn't seem to have much social awareness. But then again, maybe his lack of social awareness will lead him to be unloyal to his current alliance.

I think all of those would be tough pulls except Erika, but if they do get Erika over, then 4 vs. 7 means the 7 can't risk splitting the vote.
The bigger side also has two immunity idols that they can use.

I think with all the twists and turns and advantages this season, anyone can be pulled in any direction, except for maybe the Danny/Deshawn/Shan/Lil group.

Even they can, I just think they might be smart enough to wait on it.
Even though I said earlier that they can just get picked off, I would bet that Xander/Evvie/Tiffany aren't the next three to go.

I could def see Shan or DeShawn seeing the number advantage and deciding that they can trim fat and try to get rid of a better player like Ricard or maybe a guy they can't trust to actually do what he is supposed to in Nassir.
The thing is that I don't think they have enough tact to pull this off without those people catching wind of it and it causing a split in the 8.
I'll just say I'd be surprised if the 8 stay together. they really are just a solid 4 with 4 latch ons.

That's going to be the key the next two weeks. Can the main 4 assert their will without making those other 4 feel like they're just along for the ride. Really just Erika, Ricard, and Naseer. I could see any of those 3 feeling "bullied" and striking out on their own with the other side.

This is the biggest challenge. So far all we've seen is that everyone will tell everyone else everything. But, if the New Zealand All Blacks want to pull off a Ricard or Naseer blindside, they don't need help. All 4 of them vote for Ricard, the other 4 in the alliance vote for whomever has been targeted in the small alliance, and the small alliance puts 3 votes on someone in the big alliance. (Unless they use a shot in the dark, but losing one or two of those votes is insignificant.)
Best case scenario, the small alliance is also targeting Ricard and it's game over. Worst case it's a tie vote and then the small alliance will undoubtedly vote for Ricard over one of their own and it's still game over.

Shan has shown that she is headstrong when it comes to the strategy. She has done a nice job of convincing people to side with her but its very much been her way or the highway. This has started to rub Ricard the wrong way which is why I think he is a prime candidate to flip.
Erika is the other one I think flips alliances but that is dependent on her having enough awareness to realize that she wasn't sent to exile by chance but on purpose. Part of me feels like she is so relieved that everyone doesn't hate her for breaking the hour glass that she isn't even thinking about how she ended up there in the first place.

I vote that we refer to that alliance as New Zealand from now on.

Didn't she say on Exile that she didn't fully buy that explanation?

She pretty much has to know that she's at the bottom of the remaining former blue tribe. She might feel as though she's above Shan/Ricard/Liana though.

Ballsy by Xander not playing his idol - interesting that so many votes went to tiffany and that’s why Xander had a comfort level of not being the target tonight.
Posted on 11/10/21 at 9:25 pm to Zephyrius
I think Xander's comfort level was 100% because Ricard kept asking him to play the idol.

That was a really good episode but an odd tribal. They should have shown us when the decision was made to switch back to the original plan.
Posted on 11/10/21 at 11:37 pm to UMRealist
I think the plan all along was to have the scramble and make Xander paranoid enough to play the idol. They’re all terrible actors.

If that is the case, and it well might be, they should have whispered his name just loud enough to hear and not have Ricard begging him to play it.

I don't think so otherwise Shan and Deshawn wouldn't have had their public disagreement that is spilling into next week.
