From an old friend & avowed comic book nerd on FB:

Superman: No spoiler Review
In the 86 years since Superman debuted in Action Comics, there have been many versions. He is a character that in many ways reflects the times of his writers, his audience, and the greedy exploitation of his corporate owners.
Even so, prior to the Henry Cavill era, Superman was always a symbol of hope to those needing it. Beginning in 1942, he was a Kansas farm boy that was given humanity by his loving adopted parents, the Kents. To a jaded post-9/11 society, this seemed hokey to some people. The darkness bled into Superman stories.
As a lifetime Superman fan, I am a harsh critic.
In my opinion, this film is good. First, the negatives. While it has a splash opening, it starts with too much narrative, resulting in an initial slow pace.
The positives… Once it gets its sea legs, it is as solid as the first two Christopher Reeves films. There is humor, drama, credible villains, and a well written “comic book” plot.
Mayhaps, the best part of the plot is Superman’s humanity. He is less of a god-like character than the Cavill era. He is a flawed man that wants to save people in trouble. Fortunately, he is slightly more powerful than mortal men.
Ignore Disney planted reviews claiming wokeness. The critics have a competing film out in 2 weeks. Part of the attack by reviewers actually gets debated on screen.
I will definitely see it in theatres again.
It is not perfect but it presents a solid Superman universe that DC can build franchise upon.

For the reasons I have stated here an other threads. Gunn didn't crack the code. For all the good casting, he can't not project his own views on an existing IP.
Kents were hayseed farmers in flyover country
Main male characters in the movie cry.
Krypto is literally modeled after his own dog.
Gunn projects his so called attacks via social media onto Superman...
On and on it goes.

Probably best to wait until Thursday to post spoilers.

You just come to a Movie/TV board to shite on movies and tv. you should start a podcast

Lex just HATES Superman just to hate him. there wasnt enough room in the movie to actually give him depth and true motivation. The movie couldve been better by removing a lot of the side elements that are just "there."
In the comics, Lex's motivations are closer to Batman's motivations for having a Superman contingency plan. They both see Superman as a threat, but Lex sees him as an active threat while Batman views him as a potential threat.
I would hope they captured that, because being able to actually understand and relate to the motivations of DC Comics villains is why DC comics FAR outshine Marvel as a whole.

Not true. Only if they're woke or overly infused with 'modern day' messaging.
Plenty of stuff i like, but unfortunately, Hollywood is hell bent on virtue signaling more than they are focused on good story telling. Or making money.
*ETA - Hot Lois Lane is a plus, so there is that.

Fine, yay messaging. But the manner in which it was delivered is still sus.

What's next? "Fine, the manner in which it was delivered was okay. But the movie could still have been so much better had they just done it exactly the way I think it should have been done." Because that's what it boils down to... you are crapping all over this movie simply because, I guess, you think you could have done a better job with it than Gunn has done.

I mean.. yeah, it is, but he doesn't let that get in the way of his critique of the movie.

Quite a few people in this thread have stated their portrayal was bad. Even the positive reviews here have agreed with that assessment.

Farmers in Kansas, yes. But not portrayed in a derpy, disrespectful manner.

I can't sing like Bocelli, but I can still tell when he is singing poorly.
I can't shoot like Curry, but can tell when he is playing like shite.
I don't have to be able to do what someone does, to know when I think they have done a poor job
Just throwing that out there, pet peeve of mine.
