Chris Gore called it out already.

Just got out. I really loved it, tons of humor, it’s a lighter tone but still has cool shite for people like me that want to see Superman go berzerk on people. Made an effort to show him saving everyone.

Corenswet is going to be Superman for generations of kids.
Krypto stole the show for me. Lots of great moments. Superman’s robots somehow add a lot of humanity

People overreacted to trailers about what they thought his personality was going to be without context of the scenes, of course. I don’t think it was political and it was mostly surface level without shoving it down your throat (talking about Gunn’s immigrant comment)

Just got out of it. If I look at it from the lens of previous Superman movies and a serious tone, it sucked.

If I remove those expectations, it was a good summer action/comic flick.

Jeremy Jahns said Corenswet, Brosnahan, and Fillion were perfectly cast and they nail the assignment

Which is the fault of the guy who edited the trailer, not the fans

People can only react to what they see

Jahns said the same thing about the yelling scenes being very minimal and out of context

Loved Edi Gathegi, Fillion (hilarious), and Corenswet.

I mean besides the first couple Superman films, most are average to outright bad. I mean Superman 4 was so bad, they didn’t make another one for nearly 20 years (after 4 in less than 10 years). And regarding a serious tone, is that even a Superman thing, other than maybe MOS? I mean does it get less serious than this poster from Superman 3, with Superman carrying Richard Pryor? And compared to Superman 4, this was well received (31% on RT vs. 14%; 5.0 on IMDB vs. 3.7).

I saw it tonight. I’d give it a 4/5.

Good:
Casting was damn near perfect. Corenswet, Brosnahan and Hoult own it. Mr Terrific was amazing.

The music. Stroke of genius to incorporate John Williams tones it.

Krypto was utilized well

Bad:
Didn’t love the characterizations of Ma and Pa Kent. Too country and simple for me.

It got a little too science fiction-y at points

A bit too many minor DC characters for a first film imo

Lol...my only gripe. They looked like West Virginia inbreds.

I loved it 8/10 for me. Iliked this version of Superman. Mr Terrific was great. I felt Guy Gardner was underutilized, hopefully he will get more screen time in the Lanterns show and movie. Lois Lane was perfect casting. I didn't like Jimmy Olsen or the other Daily Planet cast. They didn't have much to do. Lex Luthor was menacing and I was glad he didn't pull any punches.

I'm not big into Superman lore but weren't one the big criticisms of the recent Superman movies that they were too serious and dark?

Agreed. I don’t like his parents at all

Loved Costner and Clark’s relationship in MOS though so this characterization is jarring compared to that

That's a little insulting. They're the entire reason for Superman's boy scout persona.

Count me in as excited that the reviews are overwhelmingly positive and the film is bright and up lifting. Superman and Batman can and should operate in different thematic styles.
