Since each chapter in world war z is a recollection of the events after the fact, as told by witnesses of key events at different times and places, I always thought it would have been great to have each chapter independently faithfully created by an assortment of directors to maximize the disparity of the tellers and perspectives, with the collector of the stories being an overarching tying them all together.

First off let me say I'm a huge Morgan Freeman fan. So the scene where they are flying to Russia and Jack has to call and cancel the date. Just love Freeman's laugh.

They didn't want to be mean to Muslims so they changed the plot. Pure piece of crap.

But..... not the worst Clancy adaptation. That goes to Without Remorse and it isn't even close. The movie rights were purchased right after the book came out. 30 years in developmental hell.

Why they don't make a great faithful adaptation of without remorse.

I make it a point to never read a book and watch the movie for that book.

No Country for Old Men.

The book is followed almost word for word.

Saying that, it is pretty rare to be that faithful.

The main antagonist would be a black drug dealer from Baltimore. That's why. It also touches the topic of sex trafficking which is somewhat taboo in Hollywood right now for reasons unknown.

Clear and Present Danger wasn't the best adaptation either and neither was Patriot Games.

Clancy work is so hard to encapsulate in a 2 hr movie. So much detail, multiple plot lines, numerous characters.

Red Storm Rising would definitely have to be a series.

I'll add that to my read list, thanks for the heads up. But, I did enjoy the movie for what it was.

And also agree about No Country. That was a very solid adaption.

Never read the book. Still sitting in a box at home. Can't read it now. It would ruin the movie now.
It won’t. I did them in reverse order and appreciate them both very much.

If I know a movie adaptation is coming I’ll try to wait to read the book until after. Gives more of an opportunity for both to hit for me.

The last two movies I can recall reading before seeing were Dune and The Goldfinch. Dune was a massive hit in both mediums. Goldfinch movie sucked and was way too condensed, but I also didn’t love the book.

It is a VERY entertaining book.

Bonus points for the fact that it was written by Mel Brooks' son.

Brooks' son/the author also narrates parts of the audiobook, IIRC. That's how I "read" it the first time, which was years after I had seen the movie. Obviously its basically an anthology so there are a bunch of different voices.

It was shocking how great the book was, and led to my question of why the studio even paid to call the movie WWZ.

I know that there is already a "modern" take on the Jack Ryan series, the one with John Krasinski.

But I have always wanted a series that runs through the Jack Ryan chronology from Patriot Games through about Debt of Honor/Executive Orders or so. They get pretty repetitive after that so no need to go further.

I'm terrified to watch this, because the book was one of my favorites.
