I went to see it this afternoon, knowing nothing about the characters/story... I thought it was terrible and I'm usually pretty forgiving on these kind of movies... it was just stupid..

One of the commandos. And I honestly don't know if he lived or died.

I saw it this afternoon.

It was entertaining.

The writing sucked, the ending was pretty dumb, but I enjoyed the characters.

I thought Will Smith hit a homerun and given the shitty writing and plot he was dealing with this was a rare win for him.

Leto's not happy about the Joker scenes being cut. I'm curious to see if Leto's even interested in coming back after this.

quote:

Will we ever see those cut Joker scenes? “Were there any that didn’t get cut? I’m asking you, were there any that didn’t get cut? There were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn’t even start,” Leto said. “I think that the Joker… we did a lot of experimentation on the set, we explored a lot. There’s so much that we shot that’s not in the film.

“If I die anytime soon, it’s probably likely that it’ll surface somewhere. That’s the good news about the death of an actor is all that stuff seems to come out.”

Makes me wonder what got cut..because honestly the Joker was a non-factor in this movie...

I've heard that a lot of his scenes that were cut did not test well. Who knows really. But honestly, it's no big deal if he doesn't come back. He was an Ayer vision and his reception has been OK to bad anyway. I would be fine if he stayed, but if he left, I would welcome a new take.

ETA: He was definitely anxious to come back in this interview from a few days ago:
quote:

I hope Suicide Squad is an introduction and not the end! Because I could easily just play the Joker a couple more times and then retire. Because it’s so fulfilling and so creative and it’s so imaginative. It’s really difficult to think about doing anything else! I think it would be incredible to see Batman and the Joker go head-to-head! This Batman and this Joker. I mean, I don’t know, that might be too much! But that would be fun.
Jared Leto already wants to play Joker again

Honestly I think it's a question of what Affleck wants going forward more than anything.

I feel like Leto could be a good Joker if he's given more screen time. I also don't trust what WB says on anything right now

What?

He was fine as Will Conway and really played the part of a pandering rockefeller republican pretty well.

I found him over the top.

Just got out. It was fun, but nothing special. The slow motion during the climactic fight was very poorly done and came across as lame.

I was actually thinking this was a pretty good movie until it went off the rails with the CGI shitfest at the end. The final battle felt like something out of a completely different film -- something like Green Lantern mixed with Gods of Egypt mixed with Wrath of the Titans.

It's nowhere near as bad as the Rotten Tomato score indicates but I wouldn't say it's a great film. It probably still falls short of the expectations DC has of this franchise.

I liked suicide squad. However, I went in expecting a big, fun action movie based on comic books. I left my doctorates in quantum physics, particle science, psychiatry, theology in the car, unbuckled myself from reality and enjoyed a comic book movie. I thought it worked. If we are going to gripe, the character exposition was trite. But, I also didn't want to see a 3 hour movie. I was entertained. It was fun.

I also get a chuckle out of all the hard core reviews on this movie. It's not as if we were walking in to Godfather 2, anything by Fellini, Kurosawa or Houston.
Reminds me of when critics were slamming Pacific Rim on plot. It was giant robots fighting giant aliens. What the hell did you expect? Schindlers list?

I don't understand the hate Leto is getting for his Joker portrayal.

Is he Heath Ledger? Absolutely not. But I honesty don't feel Ledgers Joker would have fit in this movie. Ledger's interpretation was dark and extremely calculated.

Here the Joker was the Pupetteer with a mean streak. He was a slick character that controlled people and situations. Leto did that well.

He got to make out with Robbie for most of his scenes. I'd want to come back too.

I've never seen an American accent that exagerated. Feels like he's so worried about getting the voice down that he forgets to emit any emotion or expression in his face

Don't see him ever carrying a movie or show. He has negative charisma. If they didn't tell us 500 times that he was banging enchantress, I would've thought they were brother and sister or something

His dad is American and he grew up speaking English while In Sweden. I am not sure if it's his true accent but it is how he speaks in the interviews I've see from him. I do remember when batman begins came out Christian bale gave interviews with an American accent.

It's because of all the hype of letos method acting, his focus during the trailers and the greatness of ledgers performance. At the end, Leto did not live up to all the hype and the mystique of the character

I blame the style of this Joker, more than I do Leto for his execution of the character. The Marilyn Manson-wannabe, drug kingpin look doesn't work for such an iconic role.
