A lot of us said this would do really good numbers early but question the staying power.
These high totals for opening weekends show that people want to like these movies and wants DC to be a success. It just hasn't put out good movies (of the 2 and now possibly 3). I am willing to bet the harsher reception to their movies has more to do with people having such high hopes rather than a predetermined hatred going into the movie.

Saw it last night. Total Meh. All the negative reviews are pretty spot on: good elements that work, great performances, shitty editing and plot devices that make no sense. the movie just runs around aimlessly then just ends.
The Joker and Katana made no sense. If you remove those characters, the movie stays the exact same. Katana made even less sense than the Joker. She is on Waller/Flagg's side and knows what shes into. then randomly joins the people shes wanted to kill the whole time?
What was the plot of this movie? The entire Enchantress arch made 0 sense. It was the ultimate plot serving device with no logical explanation or reason. i love that she says she will "build a machine" to rule the world, yet when we see her she is dancing around doing God knows what. but as Will Smith points out, "she's trying to take over the world!!"
I feel like they took every scene, placed it on a note card, then allowed all the WB execs come in and one by one each got to choose what should go next. Then they just glued it together.
It really did have potential and Robbie and Smith were great. Jai Courtney was entertaining and I wish he had more screen time. But alas, another misfire.

Let's hear what you hated about it.
I hated the cartoonish, cheesy dialogue/writing.
I hated that the joker was wearing 10 gold chains and that he and Harley were texting, even while she was in lock-up. I am disappointed in Leto or whoever developed that persona.
I hated Deadshot's daughter and her awful lines.
I hated Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg.
I hated the 20 minute CGI nightmare with Enchantress/Brother/El Diablo
I hated how out of place Katana was and how Kinnaman explains her sword
I hated the slow motion harley/joker scene with the chopper. that whole chopper scene actually.
With that said, their was some awesome action and humor. Harley is hot, Deadshot is awesome and Killer Croc is a badass when it's time to fight.
Overall, I set my sights too high for this film. Can't complain about the casting outside of Kinnaman, but the writing is especially awful. 6/10

What about the fact that they set up this guard and then show him deep in gambling debt so he has to help Harley and the Joker, and then he just completely vanishes from the movie forever?

Are Enchantress and her brother the worst villains ever put on film? I mean, I'll take Arnie's Mr. Freeze over these two any day. I cannot believe how awful those villains turned out. Just Wow.

What's your point? He served his purpose. Did they need to show him getting paid or whacked?
I read that review too. I didn't see why the end to his involvement was such a huge deal.

because why waste so much time setting up a character to have him completely fall off? They made the audience believe this guy was important and that his interactions would have repercussions, but absolutely nothing happened. If the point of the character is just to get Harley the cell phone, any random guard could have done that. Why waste so much time with this character for that one moment?
If you'll have the Joker randomly pop back up at the end in the prison, why not service your own plot device there where it would actually make sense to do so?

Yeah but Fake-Mandarin wasn't the main villain, she was. But I would put them on the same level.

My wifes been teasing me with the enchantress dance all morning. We just cannot stop laughing at how awful that character was.

The dance, the voice, the random spell to rule the world, her brother just meandering around?
What sucks is I used to read ShadowPact with Enchantress and she was a pretty interesting character.

quote:This has been most of the ratings I've seen. This movie will probably fall within 4-7 out of ten with most. The average score right now on RT from critics is 4.7/10. Close to 5/10. It's a little lower than what I think the audience is coming in with right now, but it's not like it's a night and day difference overall. Maybe 2.5-3 points at most.
6/10
All of these people looking at the percentage score saying they don't understand how it's that low. In reality, if you look at the average score, it starts to make a little more sense and people are not as far spread out as it seems.

Very interested how you like or dislike this.
I really wanted to hate this movie and I tried my best to do it but really it's not deserving of any hate whatsoever. But it's not deserving of praise on the level deadpool and GOTG got.
It's a movie that while it's pretty entertaining and good time waster, it really isn't some watershed movie. While it definitely had some pretty funny moments, it wasn't deadpool when it clearly tried to be just that.
The editing and cohesion was kinda funky in some places but that was prominent in the first half but not so much in the second half although the big boss battle in the end was kinda dark to see.
I feel like the Villain was just completely wasted and shoehorned without any development whatsoever and just went on a typical traitor story. The acting from the villain was kinda forced and too overly enthusiastic and acted like a disney villain.
I first thought Harley Quinn was going to be a huge let down early on but she pulled herself through nicely in the second half and finished strong. But it wasn't quite the homer we all thought it was going to be and that's a missed opportunity. Leto is definitely serviceable as the Joker but he clearly is a step down from Heath Ledger although his screen time was limited in this movie so he was never really fleshed out.
The other members of the Suicide Squad was definitely serviceable but it was really the show of deadshot, harley and the rest. None of them were really fleshed out as much as those two.
This movie really missed a huge opportunity to showcase Batman from a criminal's point of view and show just how terrifying and sneaky he really is and really drive home the point why the criminal element is scared shitless of the Batman. He was way too visible.
I know this really doesn't matter but there is no fricking way they could build a runway down in Terrebonne that has enough hard soil and sediment to support big arse cargo jets. It was funny to watch.
All in all, this movie was neither terrible nor good. It was the very definition of mediocre and serviceable. Good time waster on a sunday afternoon in the offseason but really nothing to write home about.

Rick flag actor is awful as well. I mean really bad.
Joel Kinnaman nearly ruined House of Cards for me, and he was awful in this. I am going to start avoiding everything I see him in.

What?
He was fine as Will Conway and really played the part of a pandering rockefeller republican pretty well.
