quote:Doesn't matter. It had the biggest opening weekend in August ever. I wouldn't call it a monster hit because of the drops that are likely to come, but it's not FF either. As long as there is obvious potential for these movies to make money, they will continue to make them. It doesn't matter how much THIS movie drops off. Like BvS, the potential is obviously there. And that's good.
40% drop from Friday to Saturday. That's really bad.
It's like with Spider-Man. TAS2 was complete shite, and yet we're getting another Spider-Man movie. Why? Because the potential to make money with the character is still there. They made some big changes (involving Disney), and now they're spitting out more. That's what's important for me. People still want to see the DC characters..

Thought the movie was fun. Enemy soldiers were bland. Didn't mind the Joker, at least it's a new take. 7/10

50 Shades of grey set box office records with it's february opening.
Yea,because a February opening is the exactly the same as an August opening...unbelievable

Oh I agree. I was just pointing that out. People are excited about these films. Both BvS and SS had monster opening weekends. Imagine the box office if these movies were actually good??

quote:Again, doesn't matter. Whether or not THIS movie is a shitty movie is a matter of opinion. It made enough money to make it clear that people want to see DC characters. The initial numbers prove that, and the likely drop off will make them understand there needs to be some tweaking. And seeing as most of the complaints are similar, I think they get the message on what's bad in the movie.
That means it's not a shitty movie?

Remember it's a tiny, comic book/nerd percentage that's bitching the loudest...like the same folks that complained about Will Smith starring in it without seeing one frame.
Sure, there are obvious flaws and tweaks to be made but some of the shite I've heard on here is flat out ridiculous.Worse than the Fantastic Four or BM vs SM?
Please and word of mouth alone will give it a solid bounce going into next weekend and maybe Labor Day.Let's not forget that it seems to be trending much better with female audiences especially on social media.

saw it with my sister, one of her friends, and my girlfriend. they all loved the harley character.
now I find out several comic book nerds hated margot's take on harley and bitch at anyone who thinks differently.
these same nerds wonder why they don't have girlfriends...

quote:I disagree here. I think the comic people are mostly saying it's OK to good. There are some who are disappointed, but I think mostly the people who don't like it are not comic people.

The good news about that is that even the people who didn't like it are not flaming with anger like with BvS. There were some comic people who were royally pissed about the handling and tone of BvS. The people who don't like this movie are just like "It's bad, but whatever". Some people are disappointed with all of the cutting that happened. It just feels like this one is just kind of, not a big deal. There was no tarnishing of beloved characters here like with Superman. Nobody gives a frick about Enchantress. Harley is being well received for the most part. Joker is a mixed bag, but most of the comic people I've heard from have said he's fine. So, well received, mixed, badly received, it really doesn't matter because most people do not believe important characters were mishandled like before (Lex and Superman).

Yeah Joker with money and bling was different but I just went with it.
So I thought Nolan's Joker was introspective, analytical and diabolical. Anarchist to the core. Loved the challenge and the chase.
Leto's Joker strikes me as low grade nutcase. There was nothing in that that even remotely fleshed out "the clown" or displayed his mannerisms for chaos. It was like if you gave a nut case money, a crew and some ammunition. I don't get it. I thought the manipulation of the guy with Harley was decent for a moment but it was overly creepy from the jump.

would rewatch it really just to get more of Harley.
Was it just me, or was her accent going in and out? Kinda Little Fingery. But yeah she was good, a little inconsistent but overall very good.

Me too! I said that earlier in this thread! :twinsies:

I like it when doing a great thing comes with great cost.
Like the Suicide Squad is going to give a shite about anything with a great cost. That doesn't work with a bunch of mass murderers. The point is they're a bunch of psychopaths who don't give a frick saving the world.

He was a mafia club owner. What kind of take was that?
Joker has owned some clubs in past iterations. I don't see where it's out of character for him to be such.

Yeah people seem to think that the character just popped up when Nolan wrote him as a straight anarchist. Pretty sure he's been a crime boss before, as long as he has the underlying nihilism I'm fine with it. My main issue was the Fifty Shades of Grey dialogue he had before Harley jumped in the acid.

I changed my mind, her accent was fine.

She sounded like some dumb braud from Staten Island/N Jersey
Posted on 8/7/16 at 7:16 pm to DupontsCircle
Close enough, she's supposed to have a thick Brooklyn accent. My issue was that it went in and out.
Posted on 8/7/16 at 7:16 pm to OMLandshark
That's fine. I just didn't like the vibe. Maybe it'll improve next couple times he is featured.

Half in the Bag Review
Jay hated it, but Mike was a bit more apprehensive. Both agreed it was a mess and that it was once a better movie before the executives got involved.

I thought it was obvious I was referring to Flagg. He got to kill the witch AND keep his gf. Stuff like that is lame.
And, Will Smith spared Harley and Harley killed the witch to protect her "friends", so let's not pretend the movie stayed the course with the whole "psychopathic" angle.

Went in with low expectation but was surprised. Leto did fine as the Joker. I just wish he didn't have the tattoos or metal teeth. The Enchantress as the big bad was dumb. No wonder they hid who the villain was in the previews.
