re: Sugar on Apple TV Starring Colin Farrell

I'm ok with the sci-fi of the show if it doesn't get too ridiculous. It's something that is a slow burn in the background but I think this latest reveal might bring to the forefront.
I'm a little confused when his love interest asked him to move to Milan. Was that a legit request where she wanted both of them to get away from what was about to be revealed? When he said no, was she upset that he didn't want to be with her in Milan or that she set him up for the reveal?

Yeah I start losing interest in exactly at that point.

I saw an ad for season 2 which spoiled the twist before I started watching it, so with that in the back of my mind, they give you a lot of hints and set up to that twist in the early episodes. I could see how it’s easily missed if I didn’t know going in, but it’s not a big bait and switch type of twist

My only complaint is instantly shifting focus of the series in the season 2 opening and throwing away what I thought was an interesting end game plot with Henry. Guessing they couldn’t get the actor to return for a full time role

Sorry if I spoiled that- it really is the opening scene of S2

They don’t completely end that plot line as a whole but sort of pivot it elsewhere, which doesn’t really come back into the picture until the S2 finale which has another twist.

I’d say it’s pretty similar to season 1. The twist aspect of the plot coming up in the first episode and the last episode, everything in between is pretty much solely focused on a new case and the private investigator part of the whole ordeal.


I would also recommend the Lincoln Lawyer TV show if you like the PI aspect but not the Sci-fi aspect of it. It’s a more upbeat/cheesy vibe and more about lawyering but there’s a lot of shared DNA with how they progress a case over the course of a season through the lense of a fun main character set in LA

When she was asking him to go to Milan with her, she slipped up and said “all your friends are gone, you should come”, which tipped him off that she knew something about his background or his situation entirely. In that scene it shows her calling someone saying “I slipped up, what do I do?” And he began following her to investigate who she really is/really wanted which led him to the party


The Ohio thing is just a coy way to reference that he is an alien. At the end of S2, he meets back with Siegal from season 1 (James Cromwell), and Sugar asks him if Melanie (his love interest from season 1) told him about where he is from(ie, that he is an alien, bc he showed her at the end of S1). Cromwell replies “everyone knows you’re from Ohio” but the rest of the conversation implies he’s aware that he’s an alien and Melanie did tell him. They discuss his “friends from Ohio” who warned him against the dangers of assimilation (with humans) and how it changes them the longer they assimilate. Cromwell states he’ll never be like “Californians” and he doesn’t even think he’s like “his friends in Ohio”, he’s just Sugar. It’s a good scene I’d recommend going back and watching it

Oh yeah, I was halfway paying attention to the Cromwell convo. I forgot that he alluded to knowing.

Her saying "all your friends are gone" kinda slipped by me. I noticed his expression changed with that. I just took it as she was being a little insensitive because I thought he admitted to her that he didn't have any friends. But now this makes sense. I think I had too much bourbon at the end of this episode and it went by me.
