This show was hopefully one of the last vestiges of the woke/DEI era of terrible television shows.
Portraying a woman that can compete with men in one of the most physically brutal environments in all of human history is just too much.
Even the proven successful "ancient roman society" as a backdrop can not get you past that basic disconnect.
You have to ignore the unbelievable main plot line to make the show bearable. That is not something that a show can survive.

Has anyone clarified what they meant by this?
Yeah, nobody was watching.
That’s the only reason anything is cancelled.

I loved the original series, so I decided to turn this on a couple nights ago. I enjoyed the first episode okay, until it got to the last 5-10 mins of the episode, where they decide to purchase a black chick to be their lead gladiator. I was so confused and shocked, I got mad and turned it off. That was possibly the dumbest idea ive seen in years from Hollywood, and that's saying alot.
Ofcourse it was a show for white guys! Why the frick would you cast a black girl as the main gladiator? It what universe could that make sense?

Yes, i knew i could not be the only one. Utterly baffling.
I am thinking that was probably they could get funding for the show in today's Hollywood.
I wonder if the original show could even get funding or get made today.

When they say underrepresented backgrounds do they mean straight white males?
