honestly, as long as it does the same things right it did with TFA while taking it to new places (which the reviews say they do)
I'll be sound as a pound. just heavy exposition and gag humor was one of the things I didn't like about TFA and it will be disappointing if it finds its way into the last jedi. it just makes me cringe and briefly kind of takes me out of the movie.

I agree ROTJ is very underrated
I think it gets overlooked because of how good Empire was. It's cool to bash the Ewoks, but Jedi was a solid film. When I was a kid, it was my favorite of the OT.

Disagree. Luke learns the last bits of information he needs before confronting his father, Han and Lando have a possible goodbye moment, Luke and Leia finally realize they're siblings, the speeder bike chase is awesome.
The movie I've always wanted to see but will never get the chance is the Shadows of the Empire timeframe between Empire and Jedi.

Actually agree with you here. Liked the mild humor in 4-6. But they forced in too much with TFA. Started to hate how they made Finn a walking talking joke. It worked in some spots but was mostly annoying.

Luke learns the last bits of information he needs before confronting his father
it was also just lazy exposition, and for some reason ghost obi wan needs to take a seat
but even so, that's not a lot going on and we're talking about at least an hour of the movie.
I just think it's a flat movie. I don't feel anything when I watch it

Irvin kershner had an interesting comment about empire
He said he needed it to be funny but he couldn’t have gags, it needed to have romance but it couldn’t have “smooching” he’s talking about having the variety of being human while maintaining the tone. I think he pulled it off perfectly

Ewoks like jar jar are an easy scapegoat. You can have Ewoks in the movie and still make an awesome movie

"from a certain point of view" was lazy...obi wan is a good guy. good guys don't lie even for a good reason.
I see what you're saying, but that's simply not true, in movies or real life. People tell those types of lies all the time to protect people who aren't ready for the truth, just like Luke wasn't in ANH.

I agree with you here, and apparently TLJ has some cringe worthy jokes as well. Basically, what you see in the MCU is what they're doing with Star Wars.

That’s not the kind of heavy stuff I’m talking about. That’s 4 words added on that gives you important information and saves it from the boring political scenes of the prequels
That was cringe though, a lot of cringe dialogue. There’s one in the last Jedi trailer. “We need to light the spark that will start the fire that will destroy the first order”
Most of the exposition in TFA was bad because it was the new characters learning what we already know. The entire scene with Rey and Finn when they meet Han...terrible

Yeah, but it’s cringe in those movies but in a movie like Star Wars it wrecks the tone

I don't hate the line, but it's exactly the kind of line in a film that breaks your immersion.

Jedi is so far superior to TFA, good lord
Agreed.
I’ve never really understood the hate for ROTJ, which seems to have been exacerbated in the wake of TFA. Jedi is a superior film to TFA, and I’m not a TFA hater though I do think it’s given a pass for its flaws purely because of nostalgia and the fact that it had an incredibly low bar set by the prequel trilogy.
For every gripe about Ewoks and Death Star II in ROTJ, there’s a legitimate gripe to be made about Rathtars and Starkiller Base in TFA. The entire Rathtar sequence in TFA was empty calories and unnecessary.
Palpatine > Snoke
Vader > Ren
Young Luke > Rey
Lando > Finn/Poe
Jabba > fat parts buyer on Jakku
Boba Fett > Phasma
Luke/Vader fight > Rey/Kylo fight
Ewoks > Rathtars
Reveal of Leia as Luke’s sister > Reveal of Kylo Ren as Ben Solo
Vader’s unmasking > Ren’s unmasking

I've seen ROTJ hundreds of times, probably more than any other movie I've ever seen, and I never thought about that.

if you take out the Ewoks, there's not much to NOT like
It's pretty disjointed. Jabba's Palace is like it's own separate story. I think it's pretty clear that Lucas ran out of story to tell but still had a huge ending planned for Luke and Vader. So Lucas stuck Jabba's Palace on the front end and then recycled the Death Star storyline to fill in the gaps.
Also, clearly, he tried to match the plot twist of Empire by forcing the "Leia is the twin sister" narrative which doesn't work.

what I mean is there's an unwillingness to complicate obi wan in any way. he can't say "look, i'm sorry I lied, BUT"
no he has to say "I didn't lie, see from a certain point of view I'm telling the truth
it's like you said. people lie like that all of the time, it's relatable, it's human. "from a certain point of view sounds like a politician trying to navigate his way out of stepping in it...and not well
