His work on Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3 ranks amongst the most directly impressive

Vulture seem to have beaten everybody to the big scoop and are reporting that Arndt has completed “a 40 to 50 page treatment” for the next Star Wars picture.
quote:
The report goes on to name three directors as an example of those who can look forward to receiving a copy of the treatment: Brad Bird, JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg
quote:
While no contracts are in place, the film is set to bring back the key trinity of Luke, Leia and Han, in the personages of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford – pending contractual agreements.

Get ready for more Jar Jar type stuff.

All of that sounds pretty nice.

For some reason, I don't see Ford pulling off the old Han anymore. Maybe it's because I've never seen him play a character even remotely similar to that level of cockiness. I might be mistaken

Little Miss Sunshine
Good movie.

Toy Story 3
Great movie.
Doesn't sound like the person I want working on SW films, though.

Decent choice there. Competent guy, has done work in a variety of fields (kids films, scifi, emotional stuff).

I'm down with Bird and then Abrams. No Spielberg.

Well that's pretty good news, but I would like to see them in minor roles.

I doubt they will be main characters. Probably more of a passing of the torch.

Ford was chosen for the Indiana Jones role to essentially play Han Solo. Lucas talks about this in one of the behind the scenes features.

You know, even Lucas realized that Jar Jar was terrible. Hence his greatly diminished roles in AOTC and ROTS.
I don't think we have to worry about action figure sales motivation nearly as much with this new setup.
And everybody needs to cut Lucas some slack. ROTS wasn't a great movie, but it was damn dark. It had bad acting and writing, but it was a much better film than either of the first two prequels. And even AOTC was darker and better than TPM.
TPM was garbage. Liam Neeson and Darth Maul were its only saving graces.
I think poor acting and writing won't be an issue with another creative force at the helm.
And, by the way, the acting in ROTJ was almost as bad as all of the prequels. Billy Dee Colt 45 Williams and Harrison Ford withstanding.

Old Han is a depressed drunk not a cocky pirate

I was talking about this with a friend, and I completely agree. There is no way they could bring back an old Han and have it feel right.
If they bring him back as an old, wanna-be tough guy then it'll probably come off as lame or a little pathetic that he's trying to be a 60 year-old alpha male. But if they bring him back as some mature, respectable father figure it will just be pathetic to see Han fvcking Solo as some old man.
I really don't see any way they can do Han right.

Great point. Ford himself may realize this too hence him wanting Solo killed off in ROTJ and supposedly asking for a guarantee Solo is killed in Ep 7 before he signs on.

Other that Hayden Christensen, eps 2 and 3 were very enjoyable IMO. As a kid you always imagine how that fight with Obi Wan and Anakin would be and you finally get to see it. Really the only reason I was excited for the prequels.

Hamill is a atrocious actor and Fisher is marginally better. Ford will turn in a performance reminiscent of Crystal Skull.

Damn what great news, but Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford shouldn't be in it. Ford is one of my all time favorite actors, but Luke is the only character that is necessary to pass the torch to our new heroes.
And please let Brad Bird direct it.

Doubt it. I think he liked Jar Jar which is why he kept popping his head into the other prequel films. He had a pretty key role in AOTC.

Agreed. Harrison Ford is probably my man crush actor, but I don't want to see an old Han. Han should have been killed in ROTJ and should under no circumstances be brought back to ruin the character even further.

What has Bird done that is so great? Ghost Protocol was good, not great. The only other was incredibles. I don't see the love fest for him. He's only directed 4 full length films most animated and some shows.

I completely agree. I think Fisher and Ford will have minor roles but I could see Hamill having a very prominent one
