That’s only going to go down overtime - might even reach the forties when the “shine” wears off

I hated TPM about 10 minutes into on my first viewing.
It didn’t help that I had JUST watched “A Bug’s Life” and TPM’s special effects were so bad I thought I walked into the wrong theater and was watching it again

It took me years to realize how big of a piece of shite it was.
I liked AotC, and I can’t believe that now. I should have seen through that immediately since I was like 14 and old enough to know better.

Mark Hamill voiced the drunk alien at the casino.

See, by the prequels, I was already in my upper 20s. My initial gripes were that the movies seemed to aim at a lower age group.
Star Wars was perfect for the 13-16 yr old crowd, action and fantasy. And that's fine, it doesn't have to be any more "mature" than that. Once you get to a certain age and maturity yourself, you're secure with accepting something as plain, simple action with Good and Evil denoted as either/or, and actually you can appreciate the clear choice presented (as someone stated, real life is shades of gray. So, it's nice to have something clear and unfettered; that's why it's so effective as fantasy. We don't have to mull over the decisions, it's there in front of us). Good, old fashioned escapism.
The prequels kept that for the most part, but like ROTJ, they added additional toddler-level goofiness, I suppose to add in the 5-9 yr olds. Cute and silly... that distracted from the clear Good vs Evil part, and often risked the actual danger element from the movies.
TFA kind of backed off on the cutesy parts, but still had some odd distractions, like the smartass remarks. That's fine when it's Deadpool and he doesn't care if his left nut is blown off, because it will grow back. But Poe doing it- it could be bravado, but it usually fails at that, and it just doesn't seem fully serious and played straight within the movie. Luke, Han etc never made wisecracks when their lives were threatened, only when they seemed to think it was a more relaxed point... Han doesn't make a smartass remark to Vader on Bespin for example.
Leia could do this, because she was naturally haughty and arrogant, it goes with the princess bit.
Really not sure what they are doing with TLJ, the tone goes all over the place. Poe would look like a jackass if he gets blown up after his crank call; maybe focus on what you're doing dumbass. The Witches of Eastwick running the Resistance, telling the boys to shut up and do as they're told or no dinner for them, that doesn't convey any danger. Chubbums giggling over meeting Finn randomly, while the fleet is in danger, again, that's fricking stupid. I might get excited if I met a war hero while on leave or something, but if I might die in the next 5 minutes, I probably would just say "hi... can you tell me what's going on? I mean, from the bigger picture? I just hear bits and pieces down here, and they're shooting at us still. Why are we not in lightspeed yet?".
I could go on at length, but that is just one thing of many that this movie missed the mark on.

TPM did not have bad special effects. AOTC did.

My god, I just watched that.
And it's true.
And it's true.

Everyone thought I was full of shite when I told you all this movie was bad. I’m not happy to say I told you so, but I told you so.
