At first I thought rose in the beginning of the move was crying bc the girl that died in the bomber at the beggining was her girlfriend. I was about to walk out.

Since this is a spoilers thread, I would like to know the outline of the whole movie before I see it. Someone who saw it tell the whole abbreviated story here.

This isn’t chronological but I’m gonna try and keep storylines together.

Luke doesn’t want to train Rey because the Jedi (including himself) were a shitshow that allowed Vader, Palpatine, Snoke and Kylo Ren to rise. He reluctantly teaches her some stuff eventually but she can’t convince him to leave his exile, so Rey leaves to help the Resistance. Ghost Yoda comes in with some truth bombs and convinces Luke to help.

Kylo Ren and Rey throughout discover they have a connection through the Force and can communicate through it. They grow somewhat close and become determined to convert the other to their respective sides of the Force. Rey gets aboard the ship that Kylo Ren is on and he arrests her and takes her to Snoke. She tries to escape and gets manhandled by Snoke. Snoke starts monologuing and Kylo Ren kills Snoke with the lightsaber sitting beside him using the Force. Kylo and Rey team up to fight off Snoke’s guards together (in a fricking awesome action scene). After the fight they desperately try to convince the other why their side of the Force is the right way to go. It ends with them literally ripping Luke’s lightsaber in half after a game of Force tug o war and it explodes and knocks them both out.

The Resistance gets blown mostly to Hell in the beginning. They realize the First Order can track them through light speed so rather than jump to escape and burn fuel that’ll ensure their death they’ll run on normal engines toward an old secret abandoned rebel base while getting barraged by Star destroyers from behind. They eventually get there after losing almost everybody and they hole up in the base and it’s pretty heavily fortified but has no weapons. First order (including Kylo, newly self appointed Supreme Leader after he killed Snoke) drops down At-At walkers to destroy them. They’re about to finish them of when DUN DUN DUUUUN Luke Skywalker comes out the front door to confront Kylo. Kylo goes fricking crazy and they bombard him with blaster fire but it does nothing. Kylo goes down to fight him one on one. They pull out lightsabers and Kylo can’t even touch Skywalker. During this, the Resistance inside the base finds a way out back while the First Order is distracted and the very few that are left get picked up by the Millenium Falcon and escape.

Luke and Kylo are still going at it, but Luke is dodging everything, and only saying things to get into Kylo’s Head. When Luke realizes the Resistance escaped, he stands still and lets Kylo try and kill him, but the sword goes through him. Kylo realizes Luke isn’t actually there, but he’s projecting himself there in Kylo’s mind. Kylo freaks out in rage, says he’ll murder everybody including “you, the last Jedi”. Luke let’s out one more line to frick with Kylo and says “If you kill me I’ll be with you forever, just like your father. And I won’t be the last Jedi. See you around kid.” Luke then disappears and we cut back to him back on his island where he was meditating the whole time. He gasps for breath like that whole force fake out took a lot out of him. It turns out it took everything out of him but he saved the Resistance. He looks out over the water at a binary sunset looking satisfied, then Luke disappears and his robes fall to the ground.

The end.

I left a lot out but that’s the gist.

There's a good story there, but given the other choices, they just don't tap into it imo.

They tap into it, but don’t go all the way. That could have been masterful if it was done right. I have come to the conclusion that the person who should have written and directed this movie is Ryan Garland.

Yes and also influenced by the light. It’s mentioned multiple times in the movie. He chose his side at the end.

Guess I must've missed this being said off screen, because it wasn't in the movie.

Reading that synopsis pisses me off because it's actually a pretty decent story. Maybe not the way I would have taken it, but that's OK. Of course, you leaving out most of the B plot helps. The execution of the story telling is what made this so disappointing.

That says nothing at all. Kylo Ren going to the dark side is not purely his decision, this movie even made it clear there were certain events that pushed him that way, just like Anakin was pushed to the dark side.

But god damn if I'm not a believer now. Women in a film is fine. I'm down but there was an obvious agenda there

My favorite was the "mansplain" moment between Poe and Holdo.

True people aren't getting the whole disconnect,
Maybe if they spent a little more time telling the story and a little less time on frumpy Asians and middle aged spinsters putting Poe in his place more people would understand.

The whole shitty subplot about her being poor and them wrecking the bad rich people casino, and the truth of who profits from war, etc... Was horrendously written and unnecessary.

Agreed. Just an unecessary middle finger to Trump and Republicans, and completely transparent. And while Trump deserves a middle finger, I don't need it in Star Wars

Just imagine if Rey was present for Rose to say this was the worst planet in the Galaxy. She’d be like “Oh yeah, of course this is the worst planet in the galaxy. Can’t be anything compared to the one where I grew up. I had to kill 3 aliens with an improvised shiv when they tried to rape and murder me. But yeah, this is the worst planet ever, you entitled bitch.”

Jeremy Jahns, who I’ve Iong found to be a hack, has finally posted his true review. Even he knows this is a piece of shite. I haven’t listened to most or all of it, but for every fast forward he rants about how awful it is. He will get a subscriber from me over this: LINK

Leaving aside the agenda for a moment, I'm curious how people who claim this was great answer the following:

Luke milking the alien and getting green milk on his beard. Weird

Feeling the need to have a mutiny in the Resistance, while the battle is still technically engaged. Melodrama

Spending time on the casino planet and introducing Benecio Del Toro's character for... what?

Hmm, you might say they did that to have the Finn/Phasma showdown.
How is Phasma alive, again?

You make a point that Del Toro doesn't take the medallion, he merely uses the alloy to hack the system. But then you have him sell the Resistance out, right afterwards.

How is Rey in the Millennium Falcon, again? Thought she was onboard Snoke's command ship.

Just got done playing ball with a bunch of people at the gym and every one of them was hating on it. I'll be very interested to see the legs for this film.

I'm sure it's been mentioned but how freaking stupid was it when Luke just chucks the lightsaber over his shoulder? Gid I hated that scene.

Didn't Hux say she escaped on some ship (was right after Kylo woke up)?
