Saw it last night. I have many of the same complaints. But I've had a question since TFA.

Have these characters EVER known joy? After Jedi? The 30 years that followed the Empire is decimated but nobody is ever happy?

Luke lives alone on a rock. He apparently had a Jedi Temple but it was destroyed by his star pupil and nephew. Who chose to run to the same people who blew up his mothers home and froze his father and sold him.

Han Solo divorces the love of his life and ends up shuttling garbage around the galaxy?

Leia spends her entire life in misery?

Sky walker becomes a shitty character? He lives as kenobi did, but kenobi was apparently watching over Luke.

You’re talking about white men. They don’t deserve to be happy.

Yeah, I was talking about this with my wife after we saw it yesterday. At this point, there’s literally a dozen people left in the resistance. Supposedly they’re fighting the first order for governmental control of thousands of planets and presumable billions of lives. And they’re just a dozen? No one else cares enough to join? If they win, what exactly do they win? A dozen resistance fighters destroy the government...then what? There’s not even a critical mass of resistance folk to form a government.

Besides, the republic had it’s chance and voted itself out of existence. Time to let go of the past.

Just wait for the prequel trilogy to fill in the 30 years between Jedi and Force Awakens.

Yeah, I didn't care for that direction in TFA either. I would have thought and hoped that there was some payoff for defeating the Emperor. I kind of thought this trilogy would be more along the lines of Ep 2 in concept- the Republic is now restored (at least, largely), but there is a significant opposition out there to face. Maybe the remnants of the Empire, or maybe a new and outside threat.

To be honest, if you just gave me the OT to go off of, I’d say it’s fairly likely this is where they’d end up. There’s no way Leia and Han were going to last in the long term. Luke’s original ending of RotJ (which they used in TLJ) was to not join the celebration and walk off into the binary sunset.

Those rich 1%ers on Canto Bight seemed happy as f*ck to me.

Until we institute wealth redistribution anyway, which will be Rose Tico’s 1st priority after becoming the new leader of the Galactic People’s Democratic Socialist Republic.

They are screwing the pooch on this. Their sub plot stories and movies are losing money before the scripts are written.

Yeah, I haven’t thought about it, but Rose seems to be a Maoist. Maybe that’s their way of trying to appeal to a Chinese audience.
