Again the biggest problem I had was that Khan wasn't really being Khan until the last 10 minutes of the movie. What made TWOK so great was the chess match. We got none of that in this one which IMO is a waste of the character.

couldn't that have been fixed with just 1 line of dialogue? "The fleet has been dispatched to ___ due to a planetwide outbreak of Romulan chicken pox"
The real issue is you know at least 5 or so ships must be close to Earth since their captains and first officers were all at that meeting. Did the crews just say frick it and all leave with fresh captains?
You do realize that it would take like a full day to get the entire crew aboard and at their stations right? The battle by the moon lasted what, a couple hours at most?

Oh and my other biggest problem is that it was a Star Wars movie with Star Trek characters

Oh and why does Carol Marcus have an Australian accent all the sudden?

As someone who really loves Star Wars, I loved this. I hope it continues in the third movie.

I didn't mind the 2009 Trek as it brought a new audience but this version is sacrificing the themes and characters that made Star Trek a different and necessary alternative universe to the action packed universe of Star Wars.
In fact, this latest movie is more action packed than any of the Star Wars prequels.

This movie sort of tries to tie into the wrath of khan. But I would like to actually see a follow up that actually shows him being stranded or whatever with his crew. To tie up any loose ends. Something tells me since they made such an emphasis on an impending war with the Klingons we won't see that. We will see the Klingons in the third one I think with no mention of what else happens to khan.

British? Because Alice Eve is a stunner that's why

The correct answer!
However, if it's absolutely necessary to have an answer that fits with the existing previous movies, all of that can be waved away by saying that her timeline has been altered by Nero's arrival 25 years before just like everyone else. I guess in this timeline she was raised in Europe because her old man was some major top official in an off the books Starfleet organization.
Same reason why Spock is more emotional than he was previously. In this timeline, he got the green light from his father to feel after his planet got destroyed and his mom was killed whereas originally Pops wanted him to be pure Vulcan.

+1
Didn't think for a second that they wouldn't bring Kirk back.
But the actors did so damn well with that scene, it didn't matter that *you* knew he was coming back. You felt sympathy for their pain.
It's why I don't like the comparison by the earlier poster to the Star Wars NOOOOOO scream.
While it was obviously forced for reference value, it was understandable reaction to the emotional outpouring that was on screen.
The reason why NOOOOOO was treated as so laughable was because there was no buildup to it. Idiot Lucas thought he could just use that to tell us he was in emotional pain rather than going through the work of writing a script that showed us.

People keep saying this, and while it applied 100% to the last movie, it doesn't to this one.
This movie has just as much characterization and thematic based script writing as any of the original movies.
The only difference is nostalgia value.
Yes, it has more action than the original series, but news flash: that shift didn't start with Abrams.
TNG Picard was calm and reserved. Movie Picard was more inclined to blow shite up.
I can understand the people wishing to do the back and forth trying to outwit Khan.....but that would have been a bad idea for this particular film.

As long as we get to see her without clothes, who gives a shite as to her accent?

They did a great job not letting it leak out that Khan would be the main villain.
When I saw him take that beating like a kid was hitting him, I knew it was a Khan/remake. It kind of pisses me off that people think JJ Abrams is so creative and risky. He's ripping off the writers from the 60's and the actual creative genius who decided to bring Khan back for the movie: Wrath of Khan.
Is this what Bad Robot has in store for us, Ripping off old movies and TV shows from decades ago and throwing in some relationship comedy?

Oh come the frick on.
Literally the only thing he "stole" was that there were 85 or so cryotubes floating in space containing 72 genetically modified brillant exiles from earth.
One person in the thread bitches that Abrams DIDN'T follow the story format of WOK, and another bitches that he showed no creativity and stole someone else's work.
Someone send Abrams a memo: no matter the circumstance, the portrayal, or the cinematography, Kirk can't lose ANYONE he values to the Klingons. That is just stealing a story.
Hmmm, for that matter we should write them out entirely because past series explored that dyanamic so much.
Maybe we can have their moon blow up, taking them ou------aw God dammit!

Like I said it would be nice in the third film to show Khan's actiual fate mentioned in Wrath of Khan, and spend the rest of the movie on the Klingons.
Would have been interesting to have had Kirk die in this one. And the next be the search for Kirk. I know I know too cliche, but still...

Id like to see Klingons galore myself.
Kirk, despite his drive to explore strange new worlds, became Kirk the Klingon fighter in TOS. I would love to see them go to Organia and duke it out with the Klingons there. That would have all the elements...Space battles, landing party hijinx and hell if JJ combined it somehow with the K9 space station we could work some more tribbles in there ;-).

So, what's the consensus on this movie?
I loved it, personally.

I really enjoyed it - fun summer flick. Original series fan.

Don't expect it to last as we get into the meat of the summer season, but it's my #1 enjoyable movie of the year right now.
