Gir is way up there in the pantheon of hilarious characters, though... and definitely not geared towards the dark and sad crowd.

When I was in 5th grade I ruptured mt spleen falling out of a treehouse. I could not participate in PE for about a month or so. I got to go into the PE coach's office and watch TV. David the Gnome and City of Gold were the two shows on at that time.
