re: Some of your hyped but disappointing movies of the last 10-15 years?

but I'll fight to the death over the Ring. The Ameircan version is 100 times better than the Japanese version, which is fairly creepy, but fails to bring the scary for the bulk of the movie. I think the praise of Ringu is "the originals are always better" disease. No, sometimes they aren't. It's a great idea, only half realized.
Agreed

Dragonslayer (1981) is sooooo much better, scarier, and action-packed and the dragons are much, much better.
O no, the whole point of the thread was to make fun of it. Just sarcasm in the title.

Maybe not by the media but by people telling me that is one of the best comedies after they saw it and wouldn't stop quoting him in that retarded voice

And I will add Sherlock Holmes to this discussion as well

quote:Winner. Although it took me a few years to accept how awesomely bad this movie was/is. Although I agree with another poster, this movie could have never lived up to the hype. One main problem is that there must have been about a hundred prescreenings for certain audiences all around the country. I had tickets for a 9 am showing the day it opened and like a week earlier, the local HUNTSVILLE, AL DJ is saying he saw it and didn't like it.
Star Wars Ep I
quote:I'm sorry, I love this movie. The fight between Jango and Obi Wan plus the big battle at the end make Hayden Christiansen's shitty acting bearable.
Star Wars Ep. 2
My own addition would be Aliens vs. Predators. I know, I know...What was I expecting? I get it. The point is, I was expecting very little except to see some Aliens and Predators beat th eshit out of each other. Instead, we got a bunch of crappy characters and ONE flipping fight scene. All I wanted was some damn arse kicking!!! And there was hardly any of it. They could have just added another 3 fight sequences to the movie and about 15 minutes worth of film (which they could have because the movie was probably not even 90 minutes), it would be one of my guilty pleasures and would be on Spike at least once a week.

I am sure I will catch flack for this but...
The Dark Knight
I watched this about 6 months after it came out and had huge expectations from all of the insane hype and reviews on the internet and from people my age. I mean I had multiple people tell me it was the best movie they had ever seen. Don't get me wrong it was a good flick and one of the better super hero movies but I honestly liked Batman Begins better.
Just look at all the insane hype already for the new one coming out...I don't understand it. Way overhyped imo

Really?
It might be the best "comic book movie" ever but that's about it - lets not get carried away with a genre that is too limited to truly be a great movie.

2002 - Reign of Fire (The directors should have talked to the makers of DragonSlayer from 20 years earlier. This could have been one of the greatest dark fantasies of all time...ended up being very decent dragon movie with poor acting)
Found the thread I was talking about if you don't mind a long read.
