Rogue One was a fanboy circle jerk. No substance whatsoever. I’ll certainly take it over The Last Jedi which was pure shite, but it wasn’t good.

Rogue One is fan fiction. It’s the greatest fan film ever made. Explain to me why the first two acts are necessary at all? It’s not as bad as TLJ, but it’s still not a good movie. Everyone just ignores it because Darth Vader goes on a mass murder spree in the end. No subtleness at all. On its own merits, no one would give a shite about it.

Then tell me where it works on it’s own accord outside of referencing Star Wars. The Last Jedi is a dumpster fire that ruined everything, but Rogue One is a shitty story that solely relies on the fanbase’s knowledge of previous stories for it to work. If Star Trek told the exact same story, you would not give it the benefit of the doubt. Only suckers fall for Rogue One.

It's not supposed to work by itself. It directly preceeds the original film and is after the prequels and other video material. We know how it ends but this gives back story into how the rebellion got the plans for the death star. Your whole premise is invalid. RO IMO is the best Disney made Star Wars film.
