"Solo: A Star Wars Story" gets the job done with little fuss, but also with precious little finesse.

Collider:

Solo is technically a Star Wars movie, but it's one that has set pieces in place of a personality. It's a film whose base level is "fine". Despite some unique cinematography, Ron Howard's direction is staid, stolid, and completely without personality.

Denver Post:

Solo is pretty, but it's a desolate place to be.

Rolling Stone:

Howard and the Kasdans play the series game without ever raising the stakes, defaulting to dull and dutiful when they might have blasted off into creative anarchy. May 15, 2018 | Rating: 2.5/4 |

Doesn't sound too great

Yikes if those are the initial reviews. Hopefully it doesn't have a variance like TLJ did.

this is one of the reviews for Solo on RT, someone screwed up

It's not often a sequel surpasses its predecessor, but Deadpool 2 improves on the original in pretty much every way; packing in funnier jokes, better characters, and even some genuinely touching moments.

It’s “How I Met Your Wookiee”!

That’s the gist of “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” the latest entry in the sci-fi film franchise, in which a young-ish Han Solo goes from wisecracking space chauffeur to weighty leading man.

Like 2016’s “Rogue One,” “Solo” is a prequel that sets up “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope.” Here, Han meets Chewbacca! Han first flies the Millennium Falcon! Han makes the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs!

As for Ehrenreich, the 28-year-old actor is a major emerging talent. He was exceptional in “Hail, Caesar!” and here he is a likable, believable romantic lead. But that’s all. Poor Ehrenreich has been set up to fail by being given an impossible task: to make us forget about Harrison Ford, easily the most iconic action hero in modern cinema.

Disney was bound to hit a wall sooner or later.

“Solo,” sadly, should be frozen forever in carbonite.

The studio has been cranking out “Star Wars” movies with the rapidity of chocolates on Lucy and Ethel’s conveyor belt. Everything started out dandy, but now they’re scrambling to keep up with the demands of cranky fans, troublesome talent and truly crazy annual release dates. Four movies in less than three years is a lot of celestial battles. “Solo” is the first victim of that madcap pace — a movie so un-fun you should get college credit for watching it.

Did the acting lessons they got for this fool playing Solo help any?

How is his performance?

He seems like Bill Hader without the humor.

After the unjustified reporter boost to TLJ, any poor reporting on a Star Wars movie is a big deal.

That’s a tough call.

If reporters give it a bad rating, does that mean that it’ll be a good movie?

Critics gave AOTC 66%. Fans gave it 57%.

We can only hope that Solo continues to trend this way for both critics and fans, forcing Disney to fire KK and clean house.

I’m just hoping that Deadpool 2 crushes it and Kennedy’s career.

These reviews read like how reviews for The Last Jedi should have read.

Because Feige's goal is to make great movies. Kennedy's goal is to push an agenda...read her interviews and she says what is most important to her.

I can’t tell shite from this after the critics whiffed on TLJ.

Either it’s a competent movie (I liked Rouge One) or it’s going to suck arse. But I can say this, If they frick up the origin story of one of the most popular characters in cinematic history it’s going to take a lot for them to get Star Wars off the mat again.
