I have no dog in the fight, because I've been out of the loop for years...but I caught some of it on TruTV the other night while flipping channels (was rolling the dice on catching an ep of Impractical Jokers, lol), and I'll admit it was entertaining to see Jericho talking shite

fricking this.

Wrestling as a television product has sucked as a whole since the first time the wwe roster split into two shows. When a large chunk of your broadcast is a couple of 115 lb woman fighting you tend to lose the suspension of disbelief a bit.

Jericho has been down for 10 years now and has WWEDS.

He can’t get them out of his mind - complained about Brock Lesnar winning MITB over younger guys and yet there he is, forcing himself in the main event of a new promotion with retreads and Japanese leftovers.

They lost nearly 30% of their audience from week one to two.

AEW shown has been entertaining the first two weeks, but eventually the gymnastics will get old. We'll see if they have staying power then, but to me they're better than WWE right now becuase it's a lot less writing and a lot more doing.

WWE is doing reshuffling with the draft so they’re not exactly deep in storylines, especially with Survivor Series coming up. We’ll see the storylines start to pick up after that.

Jericho is the greatest wrestler ever, he can speak on any promiotion since he’s wrestled in all of them.

The only guy I think AEW should bring in is Brian Cage.

WWE needs to stop this MMA/Boxing obsession quickly-their actual wrestlers will get buried (Rousey excluded)

Both shows losing viewers every week. AEW has lost 30% of the audience from their first show and I think NXT is about the same.

AEW dropped below 1 million viewers last night but they were still second in the 18-49 age group. NXT's ratings are even lower and their average viewer is in their 50s. It will take a few weeks for these shows to level off.

I'd like to see some kind of cross promotion between TNT's NBA show and AEW. Shaq is a big wrestling fan and I imagine they could do some fun stuff with him. NXT is supposedly going on the road in January so a better environment will hopefully help that show.

I'm not sure how I feel about this comment but I think there is some truth to it. No doubt top-down AEW is stacked in athleticism and nearly every match has had some great and athletic spots that could've been show stealing 10+ years ago and I know AEW wants to differentiate its style from that of WWE...

With that said I think I've seen someone dive over the top rope to the outside like at least twice night in each of AEW's first 3 episodes. It loses its impact. As do other constantly performed aerial moves.

I agree with you. That was lightning in a bottle magical television. Impossible to replicate.

The product they put out now isn't even in the same catagory. The quality has turned to shite and its just boring nonsense.

It has nothing to do with the product

Wrestling these days isn't competing with other promotions or other sports, its competing with Minecraft, Fortnite, and other online video games as well as High Speed Internet, YouTube, Twitch, Social Media, Tablets and other media competition

Online gaming wasn't really a mainstream thing in the late 90s. It was a niche.

In-home entertainment options for kids and teenagers were much more limited in the late 90s. You had cable TV and single player video games. Internet was still relatively new, slow, and not mainstream yet. So it was a lot easier for kids to watch wrestling for something to do on a Monday Night.

I know I got into wrestling at a young age due to the video games. I played the wrestling video games first, then got into the shows.

It was such a great time to be in that target audience. Monday Night War, South Park, Jerry Springer, baggy pants, nu metal, etc.
Wrestling will never be as cool as it was then.

Crowds were so much more raucous back then. Everything is so generic now.

People yell, scream, and have the fainting vapors over Jim Cornette's take on modern wrestling but he is right on this point. Sometimes less is more.

If everyone is doing a dive to the floor then it doesn't matter if anyone is doing a dive to the floor. The law of diminishing returns sets in sooner or later.

As an example, the Tupelo Concession Stand brawl is famous in wrestling. A classic wild and bloody brawl. What folks forget is that after getting the territory hot with that angle Jarrett dialed the blood and violence down (it was still Memphis though so it will always be there) to keep from burning the fans out on it.

Then, whenever he needed to pop the territory, he'd do something like that again.

That was awesome. And what were the promoters most worried about? Not Lawler, Dundee or the Moondogs... but them breaking the popcorn machine.

This is somewhat true but Fenix is still great to watch. On the other hand, Ricochet is incredibly boring. Part of that has to do with announcing and the way they build him up though.

I agree...with that said...even WWE does this.

You see a minimum of 5 finishers in marquee matches. Rollins goes middle rope every match.

It’s redundant.

At least in AEW is expanding the limits of athleticism.

Imagine if Ricochet was there and not neutered in WWE.

100%. Pro wrestling just isn't what it once was. There is a balance. With the modern incarnation of 1 ppv a month, storylines just don't have enough time to build. I much prefer the days of one major PPV every quarter and maybe a special event sprinkled in here and there.

And I agree. At one time finishers were a sacred, protected idea. Now guys are kicking out of 2-3 finishers per tv match.
