Ross is far superior to anyone on the WWE broadcast these days.

even WWE does this.

To his credit, and I do disagree with Corny on some things but not this, Cornette has addressed that too. As he puts it "not every match has to be Flair vs Steamboat at the Chi Town Rumble."

There is nothing wrong with a good 8 minute match that puts one guy over strong and entertains the fans without killing the crowd for what they are going to see in the main event.

As for the finishers, again, less is more. You will often see somebody hit something that would have popped the crowd big time if it was the finish... only for the match to continue on for another 10 minutes. Then, by the time the real finish happens, you get a round of polite golf claps instead of an excited crowd.

WWE and AEW are both guilty of this. Hell, every promotion now a days is. I will give AEW credit, they are trying something new and they seem to be learning from their mistakes but at the end of the day it is, as you said, redundant.

Now I'm going to be an old curmudgeon and treat myself to a rewatch of the Tupelo Concession Stand brawl. Mostly to see everyone job to the popcorn machine.

As great as their matches are they largely look the same. It's going to be hard for guys to separate themselves and become stars when you're doing the same moves and look the same way as 10 other guys on the roster.

This is my main issue with AEW. They have gone all in on the theory that people want to see in ring workrate first and foremost, with storylines, characters, and drama 2nd fiddle.

Can you imagine the backlash something like this would get nowadays?

Sounds like they need Russo.

That's fairly tame considering her later career

This was my point with the dives over the top. I mean it's great that AEW has so many athletes but I feel like 80% of their roster can and will do that dive so it doesn't really mean anything anymore.

And it doesn't mean anything when they look like a bunch of middle school midgets playing around during gym class.

They still have guys like Jericho, Omega, Page, Cody, and Moxley that are all more traditional type wrestlers. They do need some big guys though. There was that vignette a few weeks ago for Wardlow and Cody has said the full roster hasn't been revealed yet so we'll have to wait and see.

Jesus, Vince, you’re obsessed with the “look”...how about wrestlers who can wrestle?

Hell the hottest act in WWE is an oft injured out of shape guy you have to send away every 6 months.

CrossFit Jesus doesn’t draw, either.

As a fan of Wrestling I really enjoy it when they wrestle, not “sports entertain” on the mic for 90 mins on a 2 hour show.

The WWE is loaded with guys who can work, but they don’t want them to except for maybe a PPV.

All I know is, nothing will ever touch the glory days of my childhood and late 90s WCW vs WWF.

I agree with you. That was lightning in a bottle magical television. Impossible to replicate.

It was just perfect timing for a wrestling explosion. The Hogan/Flair era of the 80’s was a huge boom and Hulkamania brought in a ton of kid fans.

Then wrestling went through a down period. By the time NWO/Austin came around, those kids from the 80’s were the perfect age to go nuts for NWO/Austin. It was all just perfect timing.

Thing is, if you were a kid for the NWO/Austin era, there hasn’t been anything huge to draw you back in. WCW went down and WWE monopolized the business. WWE started promoting mostly to children.

The one thing that could have brought back those kids who were now late teenage/college age people was The Nexus. But, they just had Cena kill that entire angle dead because that’s kind of what Vince has been doing since WCW died.

quote:

The product they put out now isn't even in the same catagory. The quality has turned to shite and its just boring nonsense.

Dude, there was a lot of garbage in the NWO/Austin era. People just block that out to remember the good stuff. It’s like thinking a bad movie is good because you saw it when you were a kid.

The in ring stuff is a million times better now. The issue is Vince has killed creativity, making it damn near impossible for anyone to get over huge. He has no interest in putting the machine behind someone getting over organically. In fact, he seems to hate anyone getting over on their own.

He can’t get them out of his mind

This is just wrong. Jericho dumped WWE, not the other way around. He had it made over there, and chose to leave.

Acting like he is obsessed with them is just not true. Guy has been doing his thing with his band for years, and had already started working with NJPW, and could still come back to WWE whenever he felt like it before he joined AEW.

Same with Ambrose/Moxley. These guys were looking for creative freedom that WWE doesn’t offer. Moxley was miserable there to the point that he didn’t even look at the giant contract they were offering him. He just wanted out.

Have you listened to him since his come back with NJPW? He hasn’t been good at all since he came back to more full time announcing.

He’s been excellent on Dynamite the last two weeks. He seems to have found his groove again. I agree with you though. NJPW JR was awful and AEW PPV Ross was decentish.
