Alex with Layton devise a scheme to separate Big Alice from SP to go back and rescue Mel. Since Mel did whatever she did to ensure the trains cant separate, Josie/Icy Bob go outside and do something to allow the trains to split. Cut to cliffhanger for Season 3

This is the same thought I had, but they don't even need to separate Big Alice from Snowpiercer. All they really need to do is go to the line between 3rd and the tail on Snowpiercer, then disconnect the cars. Granted, you would have a new train with the engine in the middle, but if Big Alice can push Snowpiercer in full for a short time, surely, she can push the 10-15 cars of the tail, plus pull the original Big Alice cars.

All that being said, the show won't do something that simple. They'll come up with some crazy arse solution that makes no sense while the simple solution is staring them in the face.

-Mel rushes back to the weather station, utilizing found materials constructs a "winged" skydiving suit

-She then straps herself to the last working weather balloon launcher

-Hacks the system to launch herself from the station into the atmosphere, and big brains the current location of SP

-Locating the 10mile long footprint of SP, she releases herself from low-earth orbit and flies towards SP in a kamikaze style freefall

-Realizing Mel is coming in a breakneck speeds, Alex hacks into the engine and speeds up to dangerous velocity to match Mel's airspeed

-with mere seconds remaining before the train enters some tunnel into the mountain, Mel barely manages to land onto a moving train as the last car is entering the tunnel

Something like that?

that sounds like a great solution to the story.

but what it lost is that all Big Alice has to do is drop anchor.....like they did before to stop Snowpiercer.

The engine wouldn't be in the middle. Big Alice is a pusher to begin with. The engine of Big Alice is at the back pushing all ~70 of her cars and all ~1000 of SnowPiercer's cars as it is right now in the show.

If Alex had any brains she would sabotage Bic Alex's anchoring ability so that Wilford cannot use that as a threat again. I'm sure he could undo whatever she would do since he is The Engineer Eternal, but it could buy them a lot of time.

-I believe thats the 1st appearance of the nutri-bug bars from the movie

-Never expected to pull for Ruth

-Josie got the Capt America drug?

-"Car 272" is stupid.....really stupid

-Alex's hair has grown at least 3" in...a week?

-What the frick are they wearing to this dinner party? Who dresses these idiots?

-Another musical number?? oh FFS

-Fastest sewage plumbing system ever

*End of Hour 1

Done with hour #1. If you take out that time filler musical number, it was the best episode of the season. Now to see what cliff hanger they leave us with on hour #2

Hour 2:

-You know, for shoveling shite, they are quite shite-free

-There was Layton's GoT Winterfell moment

-OK, the bathtub was well done. Nice comic relief

-wait, there are TWO armed dead jackboots, and Layton takes an axe?? Are you fricking kidding me??

-Shocked that 2" of makeup padding didnt soften the blow to Audrey's face

-ummmm.....That blade is loaded with Peruvian marching powder

-So it was real, and Melanie can traverse INSANE distances in mere minutes. No, we didnt forget

-This show skips forward at fricking weird paces, it's jaunting

-Josie is literally the "Winter Soldier" now, I have NO clue how her hair and eyes are somehow immune to the cold

-So, that entire train car disintegrated?? How? What about those below, and Josie uptop??

-whoaaaaaa.....They are outside now? Is Ruth stuck on the other train?? What the hell is happening? How did we get here all of a sudden?

Season 3 is going to be garbage

I'm confident now, if JC was barely in this season, and now she's done - their production budget has been slashed in half, at least

They wrote off many of the best characters (and subsequent story arcs), probably so they could afford to keep Sean Bean on board.

What a mess, I'm not technically "done" .....but I'm pretty much done. The way they edit this show, skip around without explanation just so they can hit certain plot points is too disjointed. Sloppy sloppy writing

Agree completely. JC's character was what was keeping me interested in the show and she's MIA. I was expecting a significant appearance of JC with some major evolution to the story line and after 2 hours we are now led to believe she's probably gone. Piss poor writing. Sean Bean is a damn fine actor but JC was his foil and he had no one strong enough to take him on in her very lengthy absence.

This pretty much sums it up for me. All the buildup of picking up Melanie when they showed us 4 episodes ago the scene with Alex in the window. The timeline shite didn’t play for me.

Also, Mel has to be dead. That has to be their way of writing her off. I can’t think of any plausible or hell, even implausible scenario where she would be alive.

I wondered about that. I couldn't remember if we saw them at the beginning of S1 or not. I think we did, but I also watched the SP movie a few days ago so that could be clouding my memory of if it actually happened in the show or not.
quote:

-Never expected to pull for Ruth

Yeah she made a 180 pretty quickly. But I think ultimately she chose to be loyal to SP and its people, and her actually being around Wilford is showing her that he's a power hungry a-hole.
quote:

-Josie got the Capt America drug?

I am trying to get into that angle, but it's overly stupid IMO. I realize that they did some experimental shite to her, but it seems like they've been prepping Icy Bob for YEARS, and then Josie comes along and she's "way" more advanced than Bob in the span of like a month or two. It just doesn't make much sense, but I guess they needed to get to the trains breaking apart somehow, and that was how (although it seems like they could have used Bob...he dind't die, right?).
quote:

-"Car 272" is stupid.....really stupid

Yeah, that didn't make much sense. Especially since it's been locked for the better part of a decade and nobody has ever thought to check it out? The only thing that makes sense is that until recently, everybody thought W was alive so nobody went against his wishes of keeping it locked up?

But goddamn, they have cotton candy even.
quote:

-Another musical number?? oh

Yeah that was stupid and WAY too long of a scene. But I actually did enjoy the overhead/outside shots of the train going through different places. That was actually kinda cool.
quote:

-Fastest sewage plumbing system ever

Yeah it seems weird that the message got to them so fast. My only guess is that it had to be designed to work super efficiently since it's enclosed on a train and waste management would need to be a top priority. Also, they made it look more instantaneous than it actually was...I'm assuming it took a day or so to get to Layton.

All in all, I thought these two episodes were really good actually. I'll post my comments on E2 in response to someone else's post in a minute..

The only thing I can assume is that they have a washing station, because Layton was digging through that shite with his bare hands a few times, and then touching other things.
quote:

-OK, the bathtub was well done. Nice comic relief

I didn't get why Ruth was so flabergasted at a bath tub. Didn't we see one in S1 on SP? Surely some of those badass condo cars come equipped with a tub, no?
quote:

-So it was real, and Melanie can traverse INSANE distances in mere minutes. No, we didnt forget

That actually didn't bother me this time. I assume Mel was prepped and ready to roll if the train came back around. She knows people on there are fighting in her corner. I'll just chalk it up to shitty writing that they didn't simply make the weather station closer to the track.
quote:

-This show skips forward at fricking weird paces, it's jaunting

It does, and it is very noticeable sometimes.
quote:

-Josie is literally the "Winter Soldier" now, I have NO clue how her hair and eyes are somehow immune to the cold

Like I said, I can't stand the Josie angle. There's zero chance that W and his people would or should trust her. They have to know where her loyalties lie, and trusting her with important arse shite like this is just plain stupid.
quote:

-So, that entire train car disintegrated?? How? What about those below, and Josie uptop??

Yeah that was weird to me. So they not only fricked the train for any sort of fish or seafood forever, but how the hell are they supposed to join back together now? And how the frick did Josie survive that (assuming she did)?
quote:

-whoaaaaaa.....They are outside now? Is Ruth stuck on the other train?? What the hell is happening? How did we get here all of a sudden?

This was one of those times. They just stopped their portion of the train and hopped off. Suddenly being outside doesn't seem like the death sentence it used to be.

And they did all of this shite with Melanie just to say she's dead? Did I miss something? I was sort of falling asleep near the end of E2, but am I remembering that correctly? They get to the station and she's gone, and she left the data under warmth to protect it so we are to assume she's dead? She also did the voiceover thing that made it seem like she was dead. Of course, I'm assuming she's not, but damn that was just a weird jump.

That all makes sense, especially the budget part. But I just don't get why they'd do that shite in the middle of the season. Even if that was something you saw coming as a creator of the show, you could've planned that much better. Just feels weird.

Weirdly enough, these two episodes were prolly the best of the entire series so far. So I'm all in with the show and can't wait for next season. That doesn't mean they can't make me quit on it, but I was very pleasantly surprised with how good these two episodes were (outside of a few areas).

I just hope we can get Connelly back. She was such an important piece of the show, and it's not the same without her. It's not as good.

It just makes zero sense as to why they would cut her out. The obvious assumption is budgetary, like Stu said. But it just makes no sense, story-wise, why they'd do it the way they did.
quote:

I agree, although last night I was trying to think of how they could bring her back. And the best scenario I could come up with was that she abandoned her post at the station and left the data as safe as she could, and then she ventured out to some other place that was maybe more train accessible. To do that, she would've had to have figured a way to get the snowmobile back up and working (and fueled somehow). I don't even know if that is plausible (assuming nothing inhabitable is anywhere near there), but that was all I could come up with.

And if she truly is gone, it's a travesty and doesn't bode well for the show. She was literally the most important character (and actually a good character) of the show for a season and a half, and then she disappears off the face of the planet for (seemingly) no reason.

Forgot - is Boki dead? He was fighting down below to release the train

then it sorta disintegrated

Did he make it? He was turning into a fun part of the ensemble. Which is why I assume they wrote him off as well
