SNL hasn't been consistently funny since the Phil Hartman cast. Yeah, buddy, I'm old, wanna fight about it?

(ETA: Now that I look at it - just see how far the cast quality dropped after the Miller/Lovitz/Hartman/Carvey/Myers group was done - say when Sadler and Spade finally left - you had Norm - probably the only bright spot until Ferrell, Meadows was inconsistent at best, McKinney, Molly Shannon and it only got worse from there.)

And probably "not very funny at all" for at least 10 years.

Honestly SNL hasn't been funny for a really long time. they used to have legitimate all star casts. They simply don't have the star power that they used to.

This opinion has zero credibility. You're just another Republican who can't take a joke and nerdraged over the cold open.

The joke is the fact this OP has 3:1 upvotes to downvotes after admitting he watched one sketch.

In 2006/2007 Tina Fey leaves the show and Seth Meyers and Colin Jost show up and take over the writing room. The talent plummets in the writing room, as does the shows quality.

Disagree. Fay's tenure as head writer was almost unwatchable. From about 2000-2010, I couldn't watch the show. Things started to gel since 2010 until about 2015. And maybe it was just some of the seasoned cast finally coming into their own. But the years where you had all these cast members on the show at the same time were some of the best:

Armisen
Wig
Kenan
Sudekis
Samburg
Hader
Moynihan
Nasim Pedrad
Bayer
Killam

The current cast has potential (sans Leslie Jones), but the skits are just boring or political garbage. And weekend update has become stale. With better writing, the show could be pretty good.

I watched the cold opening and the monologue...That was enough.

I’ve caught a skit here and there online for the last 8 years and nothing pretty much outside of the Lonely Island shorts, Anne Hathaway’s impersonation of Katie Holmes, and much of the stuff that Justin Timberlake has done really stuck with me.

Better for you?

Tina Fey is someone that everyone says is funny but no one really thinks is.

You lost me here. Girls are funny, get over it.

But seriously, created/wrote Mean Girls, 30 Rock, years of funny SNL, Kimmy Schimdt. I'd say she's pretty funny.

I can see how this one could be taken either way as it had something to offend everyone but I thought it showed the host as a crazy bitch with TDS. The guests gave sane answers and she would not accept them.

That's the way I chose to view it, anyway.

BTW, they've made fun of every president through the years.

This is mostly true. The way they are roasting Trump might be a little overboard, but it is in line with how they roasted Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton and Reagan. What makes it seem weird is that they gave Obama a pass for eight years - probably scared to look racist. That’s why the Trump stuff seems unusual and mean now, though you have to admit he gives them an unusual amount of material. They regularly mocked Bill Clinton, so it’s not completely a political thing. Maybe their ratings are better now because they’re going back to their roots.

Candy? John Candy was never a regular on SNL. He hosted it once.

Trump supporters have notoriously thin skin, just like the Donald himself.
The Bush's handled it better.

They did make fun of Obama, but let's be honest. Obama was a robot. He didn't have a personality to really draw on. He isn't the guy you want to talk to at the party. You would talk investing with Trump and sports with W easily.
I don't know what I would say to Obama.

Honestly, I did vote against Hillary, but how can people not see Trump is funny?

I disagree, people will watch if it is funny and every skit isn’t political. People will go back to SNL if they get better writing and it makes them laugh

SNL has been worse. I actually think the episodes so far in 2018 have been funny.

Fast forward through commercials, political stuff, and the usually terrible musical guest and it’s about a 30 minute commitment. If you’re lucky you’ll get a good Kenan Thompson or Kate McKinnon sketch.
