I flew out of Atlanta a week ago and to kill some time drove by where the old Lakewood Speedway used to be. Nothing left of it anymore. I drove past the gate that used to be adjacent to the grandstand, which deteriorated for years before they finally demolished it at some point. It’s the gate where Bandit, Frog, and Snowman would have exited in the Cadillac at the end of the film.
I’ve also been to the spots where Justice kicks the guy in the arse and Fred takes a swim.

Gotta love pre-internet days of movie making when you could basically write anything and the audience wouldn't be the wiser.
Texarkana to Atlanta is less than 9.5 hours each way, and that's going the speed limit. And they had the same interstates in 1977 as we do now. Even the old time highway route is only 10 hours each way.
So, no matter how you slice it, and even if it took them 2-3 hours to load all the beer, they still had a 6-8 hour cushion to get the back to Atlanta for $80K. Hell, they didn't even need the Bandit to win, who essentially got every cop in the South chasing them by the end.

No, they didn't.
Watch this and pause it in 1976, when the movie was filmed. The shortest/fastest all interstate route from Atlanta to Texarkana would have taken them up to Nashville, then through Memphis and Little Rock on the way to Texarkana

They were staying off the interstates, weren't they?
