Wait so the FCC isn't the mastermind behind this after all?

We dont know what happened behind closed doors so hard to speculate.
We know due to public statements that fcc was looking into taking action to punish the networks or to have Kimmel removed due the FCC chairs statement.

Uh, no we don't.

It wasn't satirical. That much is just plainly obvious. I laughed pretty good at Corinthians trying to make that argument.

That argument is funnier than anything Kimmel has said in years.

Maybe you dont. People that can read/listen do.
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr said. “These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”
-FCC Chairman Brendan Carr

Ah yeah he mustve meant additional work as in they were gonna throw a party for the network.

I'm with you somewhat about the FCC involvement. I go back and forth. On one hand i don't like FCC sticking their nose too much into what's said on air, but on the other hand they do in fact have a responsibility to make sure someone with a platform like his isn't flat out lying and causing potential danger, which absolutely can be argued he did.
So while I do believe they were within their rights to make those comments, I didn't exactly feel warm and fuzzy about them.

Of course he did. He added fuel to the fire by lying about the gay murderer of Charlie Kirk and claiming he's MAGA. Too many people in our country are stupid. They would have taken his word as gospel, so then they'd just have another reason to believe all the lies about conservatives being violent, terrible people. These are the sorts of lies that allow people to believe it's righteous to kill people over their political views.

All bullshite so that they can show the FCC and Trump how far they'll go to get in their good favor.
I think it’s more they want him and the show gone, and they are making demands that they know he will never agree to do 100%.
I don’t know how or if any of ABC’s programming can not be consistently shown by Sinclair’s local ABC stations outside of interruptions for local emergencies, but I am guessing they have some flexibility with late night network programming.

He did make it clear with Disney/ABC execs he planned on doubling down and going even harder after the initial backlash. This is after the affiliates wanted him removed.
Pretty easy decision for Disney if you ask me. He was going to cause them more issues with their media partners, ratings, and may even dip into the waters that could allow the FCC to get involved.

I agree this is definitely part of the overall discussion. This thing isn't in a vacuum and how shite his ratings are definitely played a role.

This probably gets to the reality of the business decisions here. Kimmel's show had already lost over 40% of its ratings since January. If these affiliates were to stick to their guns, that would be an additional 33% of TVs not even being able to see the show. Advertisers aren't going to keep paying what they're paying to advertise the show after losing over 60% of the viewers in less than a year.

Because the FCC made threats about investigating them if they didnt drop Kimmel.
Again, how is Kimmel getting fired by his media company a first amendment discussion?

Yeah I agree with all that, Kimmel has no one to blame but himself. But Kimmel is an absolute terrible person, so his doubling down doesn't surprise me. I think that's something everyone can agree on, Jimmy Kimmel is just a bad human being.

He wasn't fired. They still have a contract with him.
