Should movies have tiered pricing?

I sometimes feel there should be tiered movie pricing.
With so many movies it's hard to make all the ones you want to see, and not go broke doing it. Plus unlike the past, movies go straight to digital/bluray a couple of weeks after leaving theaters, not months. They are on HBO when in the past movies would be hitting Blockbuster.
So we have less need to see comedies, low budget films and even family films in theaters.
I would do a three tier price.
Tier C : would be arthouse, oscar-bait and movies that cost under 50M to make. Would also include rereleases. .
Tier B : mid budget 50m-125m movies. Comedies, cartoons, family films, odd ball films.
Tier A : Blockbusters
Films with $125m+ budgets.
Tier A would cost a little more than a ticket currently.
Tier B would be around $9
Tier C would be $5-8.

You are paying for seating in an A/C room with nice sound.

I’d be fine with ticket prices that were different based on the budget of the movies, but that would make tracking box office totals very tricky.
I definetly wouldn’t want a set tier system.

Assholes who talk throughout the movie should pay more, as should assholes who won't turn off their phones.

Doesn’t AMC stubs and moviepass already throw off those numbers

The wife and I just go to see movies on Tuesdays. $5 all day/night matinée pricing. Follow it up with 50 cent wings and dollar/beer anything on tap at a local bar.

Good idea.... its like these theaters do not understand basic models of supply and demand. There are many movies I would go see at $5 but not at $10.
fwiw - The old Moviepass definitely allowed me to see many more movies but that model was doomed to failure. Something the middle of the current scheme (1 price for all) and Moviepass (unlimited for 1 price) could realistically be more profitable/beneficial to the consumer, theater owners and Hollywood.

Or...You could just go on Tuesdays for $5 for any of these tiers. At least that's what my family does.

I would pay more to guarantee that the theater is no more than half full, no one under 18 is allowed in, and an attendant is present to remove anyone that makes noise.

Movie theatres would never do a tier pricing system. For one the movie studios/corporate offices determine the price of movie tickets. The studios get a high percentage of money off the money from tickets sold. The longer the movie stays at the movie theatre, the percentage is less. The movie theatres make their money off concession sales.
Also it would be hard to prevent someone who buys a lower tier ticket from entering a higher tier movie. Could hire more employees but they are being paid minimum wage and they would not give a crap if someone did sneak in movies.

Discount pricing based on Rotten Tomato scores. The next Adam Sandler film would be 99 cents.

They could also set pricing based on the seat you are in like airlines do.

They already do have tiered pricing, because capitalism
You want to best sound and in 3D - $$$$
You want the above in moving seat - $$$$$
You want a cheap ticket - Tuesdays (seems most theaters do this now) - $$$
You are not dying to see it just yet - Dollar theater - $$
You do not need to see it on an 80' screen in Dolby Atmos - NetFlix/HBO/Amazon/etc. - $

These are the movies that destroy studios anyways. Are you suggesting increasing the prices on these? They are already too expensive as is. Getting your Tier C to a box office take of $100 million will not offset your $100 million dollar loss on Tier A because they have not original ideas for Tier A.
Hollywood needs to actually release fewer and make better movies.
The real issue is with the cost of making movies, which is so damn inflated. The issues there is numerous. Unions, Lawyers, Actors, etc. and blah blah blah. Hollywood has dug themselves a hole.

i would just prefer all theaters be assigned seating. Like the movie taverns except without the food service

Almost every theater in DFW has gone this route. I know every Cinemark I have been to around here is like that.
Probably the best invention ever to see movies

Not everyone has these Tuesday deals.
I've already seen seven movies in theaters since may. It'scrazy .
