The contest is weird (on the basis of its ground rules) when you think about it. It is clearly biased towards the contemporary when there's no mention of a young Sophia Loren or other once beautiful women - but we're supposedly thinking about the contestants in their prime.

In spite of all the bitching, I actually think this is a worthy final 4 of sexy icons from the era. Not what my picks would be necessarily but I get it. I have a type that would trend more toward Salma Hayek, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Connelly, Emmanuelle Chriqui, and of course the DIANELANEPANETRANE. But this is definitely a worthy final, IMO.

Beauty isn't entirely subjective. It turns out people are intuitively attracted to more regular features, beautiful skin, and certain proportions of body parts.
Even among groups of people who favor skinny over fat (or voluptuous over thin) the ratio of waist, hips, and chest turn out to be surprisingly consistent from group of people to group of people (in different times or societies).
