He’d been starved in a cellar for a year. I don’t think they gave him weights or a master at arms to keep him strong.

quote:

Loras: Draw your sword, woman!
Jaime: Best hope she doesn't. Or it's like to be your corpse we carry out. The wench is as strong as Gregor Clegane, though not so pretty.

—Loras Tyrell and Jaime Lannister

He’s talking shite here. Granted she already beat Loras which Jaime probably knew about, but still.

I guess you had forgotten that Jaime had been a prisoner for over a year?

I guess you had forgotten that Brienne had sworn an oath to return him to Kings Landing for Cat's daughters and couldn't seriously hurt or kill him.

He was starved in a cellar for a year. He was at best at a 1/10 of his prime power.

And she had to try and subdue an armed and skilled man without hurting him.

A man who was nowhere near where Jaime was just a year ago.

Doesn’t matter, a fully ready Jaime would’ve made short work of her.

When Jaime didn’t die after the encounter with the dragon. Jaime is one of my favorite characters, but that’s what I love(ed) about GoT. Strong characters get knocked off left and right. Like Ned season 1.

When I saw him drop to the bottom of the sea after dragon blew him up, I was screaming NO! But then thinking that was an awesome episode. Then he walked ashore the next episode and it pissed me off.

Where are you getting that they had him for a year? Or in a basement?

I read the books and watched the show. He wasn’t there for a month. He was severely weakened at that point and only given gruel to eat.

Not the Hound or Jaime in full form. I think they would have made short work of her

If we're just basing it off the show, I'd definitely say she'd put up a fight. She's arguably the most impressive fighter they've shown. Arguably. The reasoning that she has been such a badass is because they are promoting girl power I dont buy. She was a badass in the book and it's not a huge stretch to portray her as they have.

She made quick work of a lame Jamie and beat the Hound in a pretty fair fight. Neither of those hint to me that they would make quick work of her.

The book is a different story because obviously beating the Hound isn't on resume like it is in the show. Tm

So, since it wasn't a month then it's a year?

Look, no one is saying she takes Jamie at full strength.

Not sure why this is so important to you.

I just think it's hilarious that anyone's biggest problem with a scene is Brienne beating a weakened Hound.

You would have a better argument if you said that the Viper would never get the Mountain on the ground. The strength disparity there is much, much, much bigger than the one between the Hound and Brienne.

I mean, this is a show with a teleporting eunuch and the fastest blacksmith alive.

What is this based off of? If you're talking books this could be argued imo. But if it's off the show, which is what the thread title suggest, theres not a way you could definitively say this. Theres has been nothing shown on screen that makes this believable.

That's more of a I dont like this character and that's the way I want it to be outlook rather than actual proof.

More of a slight annoyance than pissed, but why the heck would Rhaegar name both his sons Aegon? I’m assuming they picked the name beforehand.

Tower of Joy scene should have included every word and Kingsguard from the book and then got creative with the actual fight.

Both of these piss me off more than anything mentioned in this thread so far.

The Hound was on the verge of death. Not a fair fight.

Yeah.

Also, " Ed fetch me my sword" booooo
That part was so fricking awesome in the book. Yet, it felt so damn lackluster on the show

Those counts took out almost all of the "frick yeah" stuff in the last 2 books and left all the boring shite.

3 years pass between the start of the first book to the end of the third, so yeah it’s roughly a year. It takes Ned like two fricking months to get to King’s Landing from Winterfell. Keep talking to the encyclopedia and see if I don’t serve your arse.

The Mountain is not a good fighter. He is just fricking huge and relies on his armor to fight the battle for him. The Mountain is hit constantly on the battlefield and lives. The Hound is not. He’s a good fighter and fricking huge. That’s the difference.
