I love it. Scarlett is taking time off to consider what she has done.

Yeah, great job here. Now the movie is going to make 1/40th of the profits when it was supposed to be championing trans rights. Too bad no one is going to see it now and will be in and out of theaters in a week. She should have stuck with her “frick off” reply from earlier.

Does this mean gay actors will have to stop playing straight characters?

Yeah, nobody is going to see this now with some no-name actress/actor whatever.

People would have maybe watched it with Scarlett out of curiosity.

Who gives a crap about "authenticity" - this is a Hollywood movie made to sell...not some performance piece in Soho. Hollywood makes movies to make money not just to tell some story that nobody knows anything about or really cares.

Studio will probably scrap this now or reduce the budget to about $5 million and release as some small film festival thing and a 10 theater release.

Jared Leto and Hilary Swank need to return their Oscars. Both are heterosexuals who won their awards portraying transsexuals.

She’s an actress playing a role.

Why the frick would anyone care if she’s not really a trans man?

What sane person even things for 1 second that something like this is worth protesting?

And how spineless is SJ for caving to this bullshite?

Guess they don't want main box office money but instead only a couple of million.

On the balance I would think this is bad for trans advocates. Having a major actress like SJ play a role like that would make them seem more mainstream and relatable to average people who don't have much experience with trans individuals.

Pushing to ONLY do a project like this when the actor actually is trans makes the project harder to do and the introduction of empathy more unlikely.

Scarlet Johansson is super hot but she's a crazy bitch. Not the good kind.

Hopefully it gets shelved now.

Agreed. This would be like if Silver Linings Playbook got shelved because Bradley Cooper wasn't actually bipolar IRL. You're getting a top level actor to bring awareness and make relatable what it's like to live with a particular problem. If you limit the field of actors only to those who share the same mental illness, you're severely limiting the field from which to draw quality talent.

I hope not, I can only imagine the melt from this board if their butt boy Leo is never seen again.
