I look forward to bearing witness to SFP trying to justify it's depiction in cinema.

What does a film that centers around raping newborns provide. How does that increase your knowledge and understanding of the world around you. Please fricking tell me.
It's just a movie, man. It's made for adults and as adults we should have the mental capacity understand that it is just a movie meant to get under your skin. And it is doing a helluva job apparently and you haven't even actually watched it.

I made my five year old watch it to teach him about the harsh realities of the world.

exactly
i don't even really watch gore porn, and the most disturbing movie i've seen wasn't my choice and had little violence in it. i don't contribute to the genre b/c the movies themselves typically suck and are a contest of who can think up the most fricked up shite
but the individual acts depicted aren't what i'm talking about. we don't have to be reminded that (insert scene from absurdist movie) can occur. it's more of just the evil of humanity, and since it's a movie, and not real, we can depict TRUE evil that REALLY affects you

As far as psychological horror goes, rape of an infant seems pretty banal to me. There's no creativity in depicting taboos. All it shows is that you are at least culturally aware enough to know what people will not tolerate. It can be used as a means to tell a more grounded and macabre story, but it shouldn't be used just for the sake of flipping off Joe Q. Moral Indignant.
Filmmakers can leave that to trolls like me and go write actual cinema.

i agree, which is why i don't really support the genre and don't even rip off the genre and watch the movies for free

I must be seriously desensitized, because I made it all the way through Serbian Film.
Thanks for doing that to me internet!
Sadly this is how I felt.

let me just ask...the baby scene...do they actually SHOW anything or is it all/mostly implied?
Posted on 12/19/10 at 6:22 pm to SlowFlowPro
They don't show any penetration but it's not implied in the sense of a story teller POV...you definitely know what's going on.
The film doesn't center around that though, that's more of a piece to show how demented the director in the movie is

Just finished watching it...it wasn't really worth the hype but still an ok film. I thought Human Centipede was far more disturbing. But the machete scene was extremely bad arse and graphic.
With the angle they use, I'd say 50/50. You can tell it's a fake baby though so it kind of eases the tension but the loud crying didn't help. Besides that scene and one other the movie was relatively tame.

ah ok a fake baby makes it easier to imagine in my head

As far as graphic depictions and visual shock go, there are mainstream movies that have made me wince far more than Serbian Film did. You never actually see penetration or anything, and if I remember right, most of the violence is unseen, though you do see the results. You see things unveiled at the same time as the pornstar, who has no idea what he's signing up for at the beginning.

Salo is another one of those movies that gets blown out of proportion

According to Tom Six, the concept of the film arose from a joke he made with friends about punishing child molesters by stitching their mouth to the anus of a fat truck driver.

This. And A Serbian Film and Human Centipede are about the same.
I've seen a lot worse.

I don't need to see a movie to remind me that people can do f'd up things. You people that are defending this are just full of shite IMO and will change your mind as you get older. Now if you're grown up and still think newborn rape is something that should be on film for any reason at all, then just frick you I guess.
And powertool, you're a good example of someone who thinks they're special b/c they choose to watch this sort of shite. And that's the point. It's not that you CAN tolerate it, it's that you choose to. It's a bad choice.

A Serbian Film was just boring and full of cheap, obvious shock value crap. If any of it looked remotely real, it might have been a bit disturbing. All of the scenes that people mention are supposed to be metaphors for what their government has been doing to them, i.e. - f'ing them since they were newborns, etc.
Human Centipede was just stupid and gross.

I'm actually ok with that as a punishment. I just don't want to see a movie about it.
