Rumor has it Emma Watson has "retired."

Rumors are circulating that the Harry Potter star has effectively retired from acting to spend more time with her fiance. She isn't accepting new roles and has pretty well settled into a comfortable life in Spain and LA. She also, evidently, is making serious bank from her legal weed business in California.
I can't really say, if this is true, that it is a surprise. She always seemed to most ambivalent about her acting career from the Potter kids and she's got more money than some third world countries. Retiring at 30 to do what you want has a nice ring to it.

I’m being somewhat facetious. But in the case of actors who are also directors or producers, it’s definitely a year-round/day-long job like most professionals.

Her estimated net worth is ~$80mm and she will continue raking in dough from things like Harry Potter, Beauty and the Beast, etc., so I don't think she's too worried about publicity at this point.

Maybe she is trying to have her own McConaisance. I heard in an interview with him that he refused to take any jobs for around 2 years to shake the RomCom image. Then he came back on fire.

Beauty and the Beast did 1.2 billion (with a B) dollars. I'd say she can probably lead a flick. I think she's a fairly average actor but folks love her.
I don't think it is a publicity stunt. She is worth 80 million dollars and she has a constant stream of money coming in. I honestly think she was someone who is fairly meh about acting but made a fortune in it.
Frances McDormand, who is in the running to win her 3rd Oscar and deeply loves being an actor, has flirted with retiring for decades now. I can understand why someone like Watson, who isn't deeply in love with acting, would step away at this point.
If Watson gets the itch and the right script comes her way... sure. But she could shut her career down completely at this point and still be one of the most bankable actors in the history of cinema.
