You think an academy award winning actress can't carry a movie franchise?
How’s Tom Cruise’s Universal Monsters franchise working out?
If this wasn’t Marvel Studios she’d be in real trouble.

They stayed away at first (because it was pre-established and overwhelmingly working) but as Disney’s influence has grown in the last few years we are starting to see the SJW TLJ trend where message trumps story. People see through that over time and it doesn’t help when their lead actress comes out preaching down to white men as racist misogynistic pigs because she can’t act.
To be fair, I don’t think the movie will be good, but this is really the first time in the MCU era where it feels like there’s a SJW message. Black Panther didn’t have any SJW undertones. The SJW with Black Panther came from the media and the white guilt idiots who were pushing the “true first black superhero” message out. Black Panther wasn’t filled with SJW messages (it still wasn’t great anyway) so maybe Captain Marvel won’t either but I doubt it. Still, I think Feige has earned the benefit of the doubt here. Feige built this and without him the MCU crumbles.

The difference, IMO, is SW insulted their fanbase. Marvel has not. They stick to their formula and that's good enough for fans and the GA.
I think that's mostly true. But Brie has jumped head first into bad territory.
The purpose of a movie - or the broader categories of literature and art - is to a tell a story well. A well told story can be understood by anyone and builds empathy, understanding, and inter-relationships between people who might not understand the common humanity of their fellow human beings. Your gender, race, religion, national origin are just not the relevant data compared to the story.
This movie is playing with team sport in risky ways. The comic book readership is very disproportionately white male. That explains why so many of them pursue relatively unrewarding jobs covering the movies Marvel makes.
Of course it is great to make a good movie with a female lead to broaden the fan base for people who want this for their daughters. But that obviously should never come at the expense of making fewer people targeted by the product. This isn't just Captain Marvel - this is a major part of the next phase of the Marvel universe. The combination of pairing her remarks, the subpar earlier previews, mixing in the Her/Hero reference in a way that can not fail to be viewed as a political reference, and a hint of upcoming attacks on any critics on RT is very discouraging. This isn't what well made movies have to do. Good movies speak for themselves, especially when the fans are aching for the product to be great.

Samuel L. Jackson is piling on now, calling Trump a "plantation owner" in a pre-release interview. Shazam is sounding like the much better choice at this point.

quote:
“Captain Marvel” actor Samuel L. Jackson likened President Trump to a “plantation” owner this week when responding to comments that Trump has done more to help African-Americans than past presidents. “[Trump] says he’s done more for African-Americans than any other president,” a TMZ reporter told Jackson as he walked into Los Angeles International Airport. Jackson's reply: “Yeah, because he has a bigger plantation.”
quote:
Jackson’s “plantation” remark came nearly a week ahead of the premiere of Marvel’s latest superhero film, “Captain Marvel.” Hours before the comment, movie aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes removed its “Want to See” category as interest in the film fell below 30 percent, the Washington Times reported.
quote:
The movie's other star, Brie Larson, has also made controversial comments leading up to its release. In a recent interview with InStyle, the actress joked that “the patriarchy” had arrived to “ring … on my parade” when reacting to the sound of a doorbell. In June, Larson said that she doesn’t “need a 40-year-old white dude” to tell her what “didn’t work for him” about a film, according to IndieWire.
quote:
Longtime Marvel fans upset by the comments have posted online about avoiding the movie altogether. “That seals it: I’m watching Shazam!” one user wrote, according to the Washington Times. “Which looks like it’s going to be funnier and I can take my daughter to it too!”

Samuel Jackson is a racist piece of zhit and PROOF that black privilege is a real thing.
He's said offensive, stupid, racist things for a while now and is still celebrated for some reason.

Why are you so obsessed over a comic book movie?
Just how old are you mentally anyway?
You've bombarded this thread with obsessive post after obsessive post....
For fuks sake, get a hobby or just go outside for a while, your obsession with this isn't healthy.

I have probably about four posts in here about a comic book movie. The rest of them serve a different purpose. Deal with it or move on.

Because he's tired of these motherfrickin' snakes on this motherfrickin' plane man.
Thats why he gets a pass.
Also I have no idea what the he'll is going on for the majority of this thread. How the heck is it 15 pages? How many threads do we need of people arguing over her comments from a movie not even related to this movie?

A bit on the local news attributed all of this to "trolls" just like the last election. There is a group of folks in this country that just don't want to admit that their SJW/PC culture is not universally accepted.

Son, I'm trying to help you.....
The first step is admitting you have a problem.
So tell me, why are you obsessing over a comic book movie?

I've said it before, I'll say it again: The American Left have become, almost without any exceptions, complete Sociopaths.....their narcissism is reaching heights previously unseen by mankind.
Heck, we even see it on this thread with some of our more obsessive posters....

He also kicked arse in movies like Adaptation, Raising Arizona, and Matchstick Men.
the one that he did last year "Mandy" was balls to wall glorious Nick Cage insanity that worked for that movie. Highly recommend watching it. It was like the director said in order for this movie to work we have the to have the Nick Cagiest Nick Cage and HOL-EEEE shite was it a fun ride.

Nah. You're complaining because I'm fricking with people and you don't like it. I don't care about that.

You've failed at fricking with people. Maybe try golf.

Yes, yes you do....
You've commented endlessly on this thread, you are obsessed and it's obvious you DO CARE ABOUT PEOPLES' OPINIONS.
I get it that you are lashing out because I touched a nerve, but son, I'm trying to help you.
Now again I ask : Why are you obsessing?
Is their a domineering woman in your life that is causing you some pain?
General unhappiness in your life?
Honesty is the first step and if you will simply ADMIT that a grown man obsessing over a comic book movie and acting stupid on a message board is abnormal, I can help you .
But FIRST you have to be honest: Why are you obsessing over this?
Son, it's just a movie and it's not worth wrecking your mental health over.....go outside awhile.....

It's obvious to anyone that Buckeye isn't well.
I'm trying to help him get to the root of his obsession with trying to impress people.
I'm also trying to help him get to the root of his obsession over a freaking comic book movie.
I am hesitant to post this message because I'm afraid if lots of people upvote it, it might send him over the edge so PLEASE do not upvote any messages that might speak to his obsessive nature.

What's really funny is that math isn't that difficult. And what the math shows is that you're right up there with me on posts per day. You can whine and complain about how much I post here, but you're right there with me, and that's not even considering the fact that you're clearly someone's alter. How many posts does your main account have? I bet that would be fun.

You know how you know you have a narcissist in a thread - everything becomes about that person. Good try DB, but we're still mostly talking about Captain Marvel.
