Winter Soldiers probably blended the 2 the best, though. you had fantastical, comic book shite and it was pretty grounded in real concerns/motivations
Logan and WS are easily the two best films in that category. That's why they make my Top 10 and TDK doesn't.

sometimes the comic booky films need more grit, though. avengers 2 was utterly hamstrung by Disney. if you are basing an entire plot line of 4-5 movies over the effects of your super heroes, then you have to do it up (Logan really did this well). i've only watched avengers 2 once and it has such a stink in my head that i may never watch it a 2nd time
I don't disagree. The MCU often has to downplay some narrative elements to keep the universe intact. That stinks for some films, and I agree that AoU could have and should have been more gritty. Logan was an exceptional example of that. I do think some finer points of MCU get overlooked by 1) People who just like the lights and explosions 2) People who want more grittiness/consequences/threat 3) People who like the modern superhero genre, but dislike the MCU no matter what - For instance, AoU has a whole undercurrent of Family and Concepts of Family weaved throughout the film. It's actually exceptionally well done, but few really responded to it for a variety of reasons. There's a chance grittiness would have given more direct weight to it, but it's still there.

What a wasted movie that was. I really hope he comes back in Infinity War.
His intro scene was so awesome too. There are no strings is still one of my favorite MCU scenes.

Yeah the Avengers vs Thanos vs Ultron would be awesome.

The first Spider-Man with Tony McGuire is one of the most influential movies ever. It single handedly showed how popular the genre could be. For that alone it deserves a spot in the top 10.

If we're going with most important to the genre...
1) Batman 1989
2) Superman: The Movie
3) Spider-Man
4) Iron-Man
5) Dark Knight
6) Wonder Woman
7) Deadpool
8) X-Men
9) Unbreakable
10) Batman 1966

Yeah, I think you can make a strong case for Wonder Woman being in the Top 10, since I do think it was the best origin movie since Batman Begins.
Yep. Up there with Batman Begins and Iron Man as far as best origin movies.

Homecoming was NOT that good. just a bunch of SJW crap shoved into an average movie.

Well then stay away from Thor: Ragnarok. It's got multiple black people and an Asian!

i loved Thor Ragnarok. watched it opening night

If we're going with most important to the genre...
Batman 89 - No question
Superman 78 - Also no question and is probably the most important Superhero film
Spider-Man - Part of the genesis of the modern genre
X-Men - See above
Sin City - Proved that you could use a comic book as a storyboard and make a good film
Avengers - The Ultimate team up film and the center of the modern take on everything comic book. Might be the most influential film on this list when all is said and done.
Guardians of the Galaxy - Proved that the untapped cosmic mythos for both properties was doable, and could be massively successful
Blade - Underrated in this discussion. I think it influenced the early 2000s films more than most might want to admit. X-Men 1 heavily reflects some cinema sensibilities from Blade.
Batman 66 - For obvious reasons
Hellboy - I think Hellboy prepped everyone for Guardians. It's weirdness is critical in shaping current storylines.

4) Iron-Man
While i can see it, it's the first film, with a caveat, for the MCU and set the tone, I'm not sure it is important at large. Avengers is the best representative of the early MCU and its goals. I think Iron Man's most important take was that it used a non-culturally popular hero and made them popular via film. He was nowhere near as popular as Batman, Superman, Hulk, Spidey, the X-Men, etc.
quote:
5) Dark Knight
I know we disagree here, but I'd put this on the "Most Problematic to the genre" The need to copy TDK's look and feel has seriously hampered the DC side of things. I think we'd be in a better place with the DC Universe if TDK never existed.
quote:
6) Wonder Woman
I would hesitate to put any 2016-2017 on this list, as the importance isn't truly known yet. If you put it here because "First Female lead Superhero film," I just don't see that as important when we've had Wonder Woman on TV, Sarah Connors, Ripley, etc.
quote:
7) Deadpool
Maybe, if it changes the X Universe in full and leads to a different and more successful take, then it would deserve it. Blade and Sin City have already been down the over the top violence comic book.
quote:
9) Unbreakable
Eh....I would have loved for it to be important, but it hasn't done much.

I have no idea how they worked that formula to make sure Wonder Woman at the top. It's a little embarrassing, honestly.

Chris Nolan is both the best and worst thing that ever happened to DC. I really like TDK but it falls apart in the 3rd act. It's too long and I hated how they shoehorned Two Face into the film. He's far too great of a character to only use for 20 mins.

Wonder Woman shouldn't even be in the top 10
Eh I'd put it in my top 10, it's a really solid flim.
Explain. Because Wonder Woman was, in my opinion, absolute drek. The best DCEU film to date for sure, but that's like being the smartest kid with Down's Syndrome.
I have explained my rationale before for this and will do so again, if asked.
