I'm kind of hoping this is a war movie in the Star Wars universe

Old white guy =/= Grand Admiral Thrawn.

It is cute and slightly infuriating how they keep ripping tiny bits and pieces out of the old EU but putting their own spin on things.

TFA was pretty dark but still had plenty of humor. I think it'll be fine.

It was a perfect balance, IMO. I liked it a lot. Godzilla was not and after that trailer, I'm concerned that this one will be super serious. At least for my taste.

No, but in conjunction with the prequels, yes

It's a stark contrast from the previous movie. This change would be fine if there were a catalyst that we got to see.

He's no longer the tenacious & foreboding villain. He's calling some guy "master", he takes orders like a reluctant slave, and just stands around the whole movie waiting for the lightsaber duel. He is just kind of bland in Jedi. He doesn't kill anyone except for palpatine, and that's a redeemable act not a villainous one.

I thought you preferred a more grittier, darker tone in film? Did BvS screw you up real bad

With Batman, yes. With Star Wars? I like the funner aspect of things with some dark elements.

no it doesn't bother me. It's just a trailer. it could be a bleak story that ends with joy maybe bittersweet joy as characters overcome whatever obstacles they face. We'll see, I have a lot of faith in lucasfilm at this point

Batman isn't gritty or dark. Despair doesn't really have any impact on the audience without joy. That's why I think "life is beautiful" is such a powerful movie, the first act establishes these happy lives of happy people which really lends weight to the shite that happens next.

I like dark movies, I hate cynical movies

I don't predict there will be much "fun" or "joy" in the period of the Empire the film is portraying. Kind of the height of power for Palpatine.

In small moments there should be, even if it's mixed in with sadness. So long as it's consistent with the tone. There should be some satisfaction among and between characters at some point

Empire was funny, but it was all subtle and natural with the characters

I hate that Mon Mothma is played by a different actress when this is only like 3 years before ROTJ. It's one thing to have Ewan McGregor play Obi-Wan 30 years earlier. Also, why didn't they just include this on the Blu Ray if they planned on releasing it so soon after its release?

Question. Does anyone have a problem with the fact that that trailer had absolutely no fun in it whatsoever?
Not me.

The real fun in Star Wars (ep 4), just my point of view, was the adventure. Han Solo is a cocky, sarcastic wise-arse, but he's not (originally) making snarky comments as he's engaged in combat. I absolutely don't want that.

What I'd like to get from one of these films is an intense "what a rush" experience. A lot of adrenaline, and the only outbursts from the characters coming from a "wow, I just did that and didn't get killed" moment, not something cute or clever.
