re: Rocky III is by far the best of the series

It may be that, to me, IV didn't age as well with the whole USSR Cold War angle. I loved it then but now I can't help but think why did he do all that and face death or serious bodily harm when he was wealthy and set for life? Was there even a title or payoff involved? It just seemed to stray too far away from the central path:
Street boxer rises up and goes the distance.
He gets another shot reinvents himself and wins the title.
He grows soft as champ is humbled be a beast, digs deep and reinvents himself and regains glory and title.
He goes to Russia to fight a monster fighter for vengeance, patriotism and pride.
What?

The Russians cheering for Rocky at the end was beyond contrived and cheesy

That was the worst part. It wasn't for the title because the match was unsanctioned. The Americans were scared of the Russians!

There's a difference between "best" and "favorite".

Other than the gay beach scene with Apollo and Rocky part III is the best to me because it has the least amount of flaws and still stands up today
You can take it as a stand alone movie outside of the series and it would work

I don't know which one is the "best." III is my favorite as well.
Meh, I just take a toilet break for that part of the movie. I don't hold it against the rest of the film.

Honestly, one reason I rank III so low is the whole Thunderlips angle

Rocky II is the best
Rock IV is also that best
I can safely say that because thee two movies are essentially in two completely different genres.

Haven't caught the news lately?

How can y'all knock the Thunderlips scene? That's a classic for the Rocky and Mickey banter alone.

Rocky won best picture but it has not aged well and I can't get past Rocky and Adrien played as functional retards
This I disagree with.
Now...Rocky as played in the first movie was certainly dumb, but it fit the character. This was a street guy with nothing going for him but boxing, and even that he half-assed most of his career. The thing that made him endearing was that he was kind...which was such a great juxtaposition against that first scene where he pummels the shite out of that club fighter that head butted him.
Adrien wasn't dumb at all. She was introverted and dominated by her shithead brother. It's what made them such an interesting couple in that first movie...he wanted to take care of someone and she needed someone to take care of her.
Now...one of my main reasons I don't think the rest of the movies stand up to the first in terms of quality is precisely because these two "grew" so much from the first movie. At best they'd have continued to be new money as seen in Rocky II, but at no point would Adrien have gone from mousey wallflawer to what we saw by Rocky IV.
Finally...the only thing I think that's aged badly in the first movie is the soundtrack. The theme is still great, but it's orchestrated like it's the theme from Shaft. That feels funny while watching it now.

Rocky is the best film. Rocky IV, for me, is the most entertaining one.
How I'd rank them:
1. Rocky
2. Rocky IV
3. Rocky II
4. Rocky III
5. Rocky Balboa
(Rocky V didn't happen)
How I'd rank them:
1. Rocky
2. Rocky IV
3. Rocky II
4. Rocky III
5. Rocky Balboa
(Rocky V didn't happen)

Yeah but I mean as a movie not as a political statement.

Couldn't have summed it up better.
Man, Clubber Lang scared the absolute frick out of me when I was a kid.

Most re-watchable is V to me.

It sucked for the most part but that street brawl at the end was legit.

I always found two the worst. Although, I did like when she came out of the coma and told Rocky to win. Good ole Mick, "what are we waitin fer?"

Way better than V. Probably better than III - just depends on what you prefer. Balboa was worth watching for this scene alone:
